Cette thèse porte sur l'élaboration d'un modèle d'invariance d'échelles de la structure spatiale des champs de pluie dans un contexte géostatistique et de son application pour évaluer des produits pluviométriques au Sahel. En identifiant les variabilités interne et externe des événement pluvieux comme des invariants climatologiques, une relation analytique permet de déduire la structure spatiale des champs pluri-événementiels en fonction du nombre d'événements. Le modèle ainsi établi a servi de cadre conceptuel pour définir une fonction d'erreur d'estimation des pluies. Une analyse comparative des méthodes de krigeage a, par ailleurs, permis de calculer de manière réaliste des valeurs de référence pour calibrer et valider la fonction d'erreur. Celle-ci est utilisée pour évaluer les réseaux pluviométriques et intercomparer des produits issus de l'estimation des pluies par satellite. Dans une dernière partie, les bases d'un modèle conceptuel régional de simulation des pluies en zone sahélienne, prenant en compte la dynamique des systèmes convectifs pluviogènes, sont proposées. Ce modèle servira à terme à produire des scénarios pluviométriques aux échelles régionales pour tester l'impact hydrologique ou agronomique de la variabilité climatique.

Le travail présenté dans ce document a pour objectif principal de développer un outil permettant de désagréger les champs de pluie basse résolution produits par des modèles climatiques ou des capteurs satellitaires en champs de pluie haute résolution utilisables comme entrées de modèles hydrologiques. Dans la première partie de l'étude, on procède à l'analyse des propriétés statistiques des champs de pluie observés sur une sous-région d'Afrique de l'Ouest et on les compare aux propriétés statistiques des champs de pluie simulés par un Modèle de Circulation Générale Atmosphérique (MCGA). La deuxième partie est consacrée à la résolution des problèmes de disparités d'échelle entre les scénarios pluviométriques produits par ce type de modèle et ceux dont on a besoin en entrée de modèles hydrologiques pour procéder à des études d'impact de la variabilité climatique sur les ressources en eau. Le passage d'échelle doit obéir à deux contraintes i-) reproduire les propriétés statistiques des champs observés ; ii-) être capable de conditionner les champs de pluie simulés par une valeur intégrale sur un domaine de l'espace. Pour tenir compte de ces deux contraintes, nous avons proposé une méthode permettant la mise en oeuvre numérique du modèle gaussien anamorphosé à partir du tandem échantillonneur de Gibbs - algorithme des simulations par acceptation-rejet. L'application du modèle à la désagrégation spatio-temporelle des événements observés sur le Degré Carré de Niamey durant l'expérience EPSAT-Niger a permis d'évaluer son aptitude à reproduire convenablement les propriétés statistiques connues des champs de pluie sahéliens.
