This book presents new studies in the area of turbomachine mathematical modeling with a focus on models applied to developing engine control and diagnostic systems. The book contains one introductory and four main chapters. The introductory chapter describes the area of modeling of gas and wind turbines and shows the demand for further improvement of the models. The first three main chapters offer particular improvements in gas turbine modeling. First, a novel methodology for the modeling of engine starting is presented. Second, a thorough theoretical comparative analysis is performed for the models of engine internal gas capacities, and practical recommendations are given on model applications, in particular for engine control purposes. Third, multiple algorithms for calculating important unmeasured parameters for engine diagnostics are proposed and compared. It is proven that the best algorithms allow accurate prognosis of engine remaining lifetime. The field of wind turbine modeling is presented in the last main chapter. It introduces a general-purpose model that describes both aerodynamic and electric parts of a wind power plant. Such a detailed physics-based model will help with the development of more accurate control and diagnostic systems. In this way, this book includes four new studies in the area of gas and wind turbine modeling. These studies will be interesting and useful for specialists in turbine engine control and diagnostics.

Filter Design for System Modeling, State Estimation and Fault Diagnosis analyzes the latest methods in the design of filters for system modeling, state estimation and fault detection with the intention of providing a new perspective of both theoretical and practical aspects. This book also includes fault diagnosis techniques for unknown but bounded systems, their real applications on modeling and fault diagnosis for lithium battery systems, DC-DC converters and spring damping systems. It proposes new methods based on zonotopic Kalman filtering, a variety of state estimation methods of zonotope and its derived algorithms, a state estimation method based on convex space, set inversion interval observer filtering-based guaranteed fault estimation and a novel interval observer filtering-based fault diagnosis. The methods presented in this text are more practical than the common probabilistic-based algorithms, since these can be applied in unknown but bounded noisy environments. This book will be an essential read for students, scholars and engineering professionals who are interested in filter design, system modeling, state estimation, fault diagnosis and related fields.

This book contains a collection of 13 carefully selected papers contributed by researches in technical and partial medical diagnostics as well as fault-tolerant control and constitutes a comprehensive study of the field. Nowadays technical diagnostics and fault-tolerant control are a field of intensive scientific research that covers well-established topics along with emerging developments in control engineering, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics and statistics. At the same time, a growing number of applications of different fault diagnosis methods, especially in the electrical, mechanical, chemical and medical areas, are being observed. The aim of the book is to show the bridge between technical and medical diagnosis based on analytical and artificial intelligence methods and techniques. The book is divided into three parts: I. Fault-Tolerant Control and Reconfiguration, II. Fault Diagnosis of Processes and Systems, III. Medical Applications. The book is of interest to scientists, engineers and academics dealing with the problems of designing technical diagnosis and fault-tolerant control systems. Its target readers are also junior researchers and students of control, artificial intelligence and computer engineering.
