The book is concerned with the diagnosis of the damage and faults of mechanical systems in the diverse fields of engineering. It takes into consideration the various stages of the life cycle of a system from a diagnosis-oriented point of view and from a methodological one. Analysis, testing and diagnosis is linked with all stages of a system's life, with an enormous effect on costs, reliability and safety. The classical methods of diagnosis based on signature analysis are reviewed in the introduction. The main subject is the model-supported diagnosis using system identification methods for adjusting mathematical models to various states of the system under investigation at pre-given life times. These adjusted models perform the best knowledge base available about the system which serve the purposes of fault detection, localization, and the cause-finding of faults and their assessment, predictions due to future forcings and trend predictions. The diagnostic decision-making is based on validated models. The assessment to be made with the resulting consequences also is discussed.

The book aims to highlight the potential of deep learning (DL)-enabled methods in intelligent fault diagnosis (IFD), along with their benefits and contributions. The authors first introduce basic applications of DL-enabled IFD, including auto-encoders, deep belief networks, and convolutional neural networks. Advanced topics of DL-enabled IFD are also explored, such as data augmentation, multi-sensor fusion, unsupervised deep transfer learning, neural architecture search, self-supervised learning, and reinforcement learning. Aiming to revolutionize the nature of IFD, Deep Neural Networks-Enabled Intelligent Fault Diangosis of Mechanical Systems contributes to improved efficiency, safety, and reliability of mechanical systems in various industrial domains. The book will appeal to academic researchers, practitioners, and students in the fields of intelligent fault diagnosis, prognostics and health management, and deep learning.

The proceedings contain contributions presented by authors from more than 30 countries at EURODYN 2002. The proceedings show recent scientific developments as well as practical applications, they cover the fields of theory of vibrations, nonlinear vibrations, stochastic dynamics, vibrations of structured elements, wave propagation and structure-borne sound, including questions of fatigue and damping. Emphasis is laid on vibrations of bridges, buildings, railway structures as well as on the fields of wind and earthquake engineering, repectively. Enriched by a number of keynote lectures and organized sessions the two volumes of the proceedings present an overview of the state of the art of the whole field of structural dynamics and the tendencies ot its further development.

Structural health monitoring is a powerful tool across civil, mechanical, automotive, and aerospace engineering, allowing the assessment and measurement of physical parameters in real time. Processing changes in the vibration signals of a dynamic system can detect, locate, and quantify any damage existing in the system. This book presents a comprehensive state‐of‐the‐art review of the applications in time, frequency, and time‐frequency domains of signal‐processing techniques for damage perception, localization, and quantification in various structural systems. Experimental investigations are illustrated, including the development of a set of damage indices based on the signal features extracted through various signal‐processing techniques to evaluate sensitivity in damage identification. Chapters summarize the application of the Hilbert–Huang transform based on three decomposition methods such as empirical mode decomposition, ensemble empirical mode decomposition, and complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise. Also, the chapters assess the performance and sensitivity of different approaches, including multiple signal classification and empirical wavelet transform techniques in damage detection and quantification. Artificial neural networks for automated damage identification are introduced. This book suits students, engineers, and researchers who are investigating structural health monitoring, signal processing, and damage identification of structures.

Modern control systems are complex in the sense of implementing numerous functions, such as process variable processing, digital control, process monitoring and alarm indication, graphic visualization of process running, or data exchange with other systems or databases. This book conveys a description of the developed DiaSter system as well as characteristics of advanced original methods of modeling, knowledge discovery, simulator construction, process diagnosis, as well as predictive and supervision control applied in the system. The system allows early recognition of abnormal states of industrial processes along with faults or malfunctions of actuators as well as technological and measuring units. The universality of solutions implemented in DiaSter facilitates its broad application, for example, in the power, chemical, pharmaceutical, metallurgical and food industries. The system is a world-scale unique solution, and due to its open architecture it can be connected practically with any other control systems. The monograph presents theoretical and practical results of research into fault diagnosis and control conducted over many years within the cooperation of Polish research teams from the Warsaw University of Technology, the University of Zielona Góra, the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, and the Technical University of Rzeszów. The book will be of great interest to researchers and advanced students in automatic control, technical diagnostics and computer engineering, and to engineers tasked with the development of advanced control systems of complex industrial processes.
