Since 1983, this report has been generated from the Services Office's Student Enrollment Record Data Base. The Student Enrollment Record Data Base contains unit records for students enrolled during the fall in Minnesota's public and private post-secondary education institutions. Prior to 1983, the Basic Data Series was prepared from summary data that was supplied by individual post-secondary institutions. The first Basic Data Series was produced in 1974. Institutions are asked to provide unit records for students enrolled on the tenth day of fall term, or the institution's official fall reporting date. Institutions without distinct academic terms are asked to provide enrollments using the 3-month period, July 15 through October 15, as a proxy for tenth day data. Private post-secondary institutions are not required to report, but many do so voluntarily.

The Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) Program allows 11th and 12th grade Minnesota public school students to attend a Minnesota postsecondary institution at state expense. Participating students must meet the requirements set by the institution they wish to attend. They receive high school credit for a course successfully completed and may apply for college credit for the same course. This report examines data on 7,540 students who took one or more PSEO courses and provides a detailed look at the choices students made, the way the program has evolved, and financial effects of the program an all parties involved.
