This new history also features an extensive index to aid in finding a specific subject, and researchers and interested individuals can be sure that they will find a solid historical perspective.

Excerpt from Military Preparedness and the EngineerEngineer Field Manual, U. S. Army, and a number of cuts have also been reproduced from the same source. Chapter VI, Engineer Troops in the Field, is taken almost entirely from an article in the Official Bulletin, General Staff, Vol. 1, No. 4, Dec., 1914. The matter was so important, as giving specifically and in detail the duties of the Engineers under all conditions, that near ly half the original article is here reproduced. The matter in Chapter V, on rifle instruction, illus trates the methods devised and used by the Author in his own company.Acknowledgment is made to Prof. Whitaker, of the Department of Engineering Chemistry, Columbia Uni versity, for permission to reprint his excellent article on High Explosives.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Although NATO forces were able to end these conflicts and bring stability to most of the region, a brief flare-up occurred in 1998-99 in the autonomous province of Kosovo, which was part of Serbia. After a sustained bombing campaign against the Serbian aggressors, the United States Army entered the troubled province and eventually enforced a tenuous peace between the Kosovars and Serbs. This brief study chronicles the origins of U.S. involvement and the peace enforcement operation that followed through 2005. Military leaders, peace negotiators, military science, AP high school global studies students, and international relations students may find this resource helpful for research papers. Historians, especially military historians and political scientists may also be interested in this work. "Leading the way describes how the men and women of Air Force civil engineering have provided the basing that enabled the Air Force to fly, fight, and win. This book depicts how engineers built hundreds of bases during World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. At the same time, these engineers operated and maintained a global network of enduring, peacetime bases. It describes the engineers' role in special projects such as the ballistic missile program, the Arctic early warning sites, and construction of the U.S. Air Force Academy. Using hundreds of sources, this detailed narrative tells the story of how civil engineers have been organized, trained, equipped, and employed for more than 100 years. From the beaches of Normandy to the mountains of Afghanistan, civil engineers have forged an unmatched record of success and built a solid foundation for today's Air Force."--Back cover.
