Excerpt from Memorial Addresses on the Life and Character of George Bullen Shaw (Late a Representative From Wisconsin): Delivered in the House of Representatives and Senate, Fifty-Third Congress, Third Session Mr. Haugen. Mr. Speaker, it becomes my sad duty to announce to the members of this House the death, at 8.15 o'clock this morning, of our genial colleague, George Bullen Shaw, of Wisconsin. Mr. Shaw left here about a month ago the very picture of health, and this sudden bereavement reminds us that "in the midst of life we are in death." He died at his home in the city of Eau Claire, Wis. Mr. Shaw was a gentleman who recommended himself by his genial and courteous manner to his colleagues upon this floor and to all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. At some future time I shall ask the House to suspend its business in order to pay suitable tribute to his memory, his distinguished services, and his honorable life. At present I will content myself with asking the House to adopt the resolutions which I send to the Clerk's desk. The Clerk read as follows: Resolved, That the House of Representatives has heard with profound sorrow of the death of Hon. George B. Shaw, late a Representative from the State of Wisconsin.
