The Conspiracy of Art

The Conspiracy of Art
Author: Jean Baudrillard
Publisher: Semiotext(e)
Total Pages: 254
Release: 2005-08-19
Genre: Art
ISBN:

"In 1996 Jean Baudrillard scandalized the art world by denouncing a "conspiracy" of art. But most missed the point. He wasn't attacking art, because art has ceased to exist - only its claim to privilege. Spiraling from aesthetic nullity to commercial frenzy, art has entered a "transaesthetic" state. The Conspiracy of Art examines its complicitous dance with politics, economics, and media, including Abu Ghraib's reality show. Baudrillard reveals the premises of his "radical thought" in the absurdist logic of pataphysics (his first unpublished text on Alfred Jarry), and in the Theater of Cruelty (a talk on Antonin Artaud with life-long collaborator Sylvere Lotringer)."--BOOK JACKET.

In this standalone mystery set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Greenglass House by an Edgar Award–winning author, a group of strangers trapped in an otherworldly inn slowly reveal their secrets, proving that nothing is what it seems and there's always more than one side to the story. The rain hasn't stopped for a week, and the twelve guests of the Blue Vein Tavern are trapped by flooded roads and the rising Skidwrack River. Among them are a ship’s captain, tattooed twins, a musician, and a young girl traveling on her own. To pass the time, they begin to tell stories—each a different type of folklore—that eventually reveal more about their own secrets than they intended. As the rain continues to pour down—an uncanny, unnatural amount of rain—the guests begin to realize that the entire city is in danger, and not just from the flood. But they have only their stories, and one another, to save them. Will it be enough? "Will dazzle seasoned Milford fans and kindle new ones." (Publishers Weekly starred review)

In this new edition, Arthur Fine looks at Einstein's philosophy of science and develops his own views on realism. A new Afterword discusses the reaction to Fine's own theory. "What really led Einstein . . . to renounce the new quantum order? For those interested in this question, this book is compulsory reading."—Harvey R. Brown, American Journal of Physics "Fine has successfully combined a historical account of Einstein's philosophical views on quantum mechanics and a discussion of some of the philosophical problems associated with the interpretation of quantum theory with a discussion of some of the contemporary questions concerning realism and antirealism. . . . Clear, thoughtful, [and] well-written."—Allan Franklin, Annals of Science "Attempts, from Einstein's published works and unpublished correspondence, to piece together a coherent picture of 'Einstein realism.' Especially illuminating are the letters between Einstein and fellow realist Schrödinger, as the latter was composing his famous 'Schrödinger-Cat' paper."—Nick Herbert, New Scientist "Beautifully clear. . . . Fine's analysis is penetrating, his own results original and important. . . . The book is a splendid combination of new ways to think about quantum mechanics, about realism, and about Einstein's views of both."—Nancy Cartwright, Isis

A study was conducted to determine the present degree of effectiveness and possible improvements in disseminating, within the entire Government R + D str cture, newly generated technical reports of Government sponsored research. Primary consideration is given to the expeditious furnishing of new reports to Government R + D activities and their contractors and grantees who have a need for the information at the time it is documented. The study involved 31 Government inf rmation activities; an appraisal of informati n distribution systems, including the development of an analytical model for effective dissemination; an analysis of currently-produced technical information; and research involving environmental factors affecting the distribution process. Conclusions reveal that the present degree f effectiveness is unsatisfactory, and improvements to the Federal technical information distribution system are possible in several areas. (Author).
