Born the son of a clergyman on October 18, 1662, Matthew Henry was ordained into the British Presbyterian Church where he held the pastorate in Chester from 1687 to 1712. He was widowed, married again and had 10 children, three whom died in infancy. Henry died in 1714. Henry began work on his commentary as "Notes On The New Testament" in 1704 and the monumental work was completed shortly before his death in 1714. Remembered as a caring pastor, a passionate lover of the Word of God, and a man of great personal integrity, Matthew Henry has left his mark on the hearts of countless Christians who seek a deeper understanding of the riches that Scripture contains. This edition of Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Whole Bible uses the King James text and is abridged from the original six volumes while faithfully retaining all of the vibrant themes of that classic work. Everything here is in Matthew Henry's own words and nothing relevant to today's reader has been omitted.

Three hundred years after his death, Matthew Henry (1662–1714) remains arguably the best known expositor of the Bible in English, due largely to his massive six-volume Exposition of the Old and New Testaments. However, Henry's famous commentary is by no means the only expression of his engagement with the Scriptures. His many sermons and works on Christian piety - including the still popular Method for Prayer - are saturated with his peculiarly practical approach to the Bible. To mark the tercentenary of Henry's death, Matthew A. Collins and Paul Middleton have brought together notable historians, theologians, and biblical scholars to celebrate his life and legacy. Representing the first serious examination of Henry's body of work and approach to the Bible, Matthew Henry: The Bible, Prayer, and Piety opens a scholarly conversation about the place of Matthew Henry in the eighteenth-century nonconformist movement, his contribution to the interpretation of the Bible, and his continued legacy in evangelical piety.

This book is not just another attempt to sensationalize the Second Coming of Christ, or to grab headlines in the newspaper. Instead, it is a well thought out biblical analysis of the subject of Jesus' return to the earth. Author, Dr. Jimmie L. Chapman, makes no attempt to set a date for the coming of Christ; but he gives us biblical proof that it must be near. "Many have made the foolish mistake of setting a date for the Lord's return only to meet with frustration and Jesus himself warned us, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." Matthew 24:36. "Jesus has given us numerous signs that will precede his return and we are seeing nearly all of them in this age and we will assuredly see them all soon." he said. Dr. Chapman shows us that the idea of the Second Coming is in the Bible from Genesis to the Revelation. It is our responsibility to be ready for it. Are you ready?
