This book is a varied collection of legal historical papers, all originally delivered as lectures under the auspices of the Irish Legal History Society and subsequently revised for publication. The chronological span is extensive, reaching from the 13th century to the 20th, and the 'contributors, too, range freely in their choice of subject matter. Each paper incorporates much new research. In view of the neglect from which the study of indigenous legal history has long suffered, the focus, predictably enough, is on facets of the history of Irish law and its legal system.
