It has been truthfully said, "No life can be pure in its purpose and strong in its strife, and all life not be purer and stronger thereby." It is to be hoped that this biography of one of the mothers of Free Methodism will be a forerunner of others, and that they may be as great a benediction to the church, and especially to our young people, as have the thrilling stories of the lives of the mothers of early Methodism. The same spirit of unworldliness, of devotion to high ideals of holy living, of heroic sacrifice for the cause of truth that characterized them, speaks eloquently in the lives of the group of noble women who were identified with early Free Methodism. That we may help to perpetuate this spirit, and thus in some small measure repay the debt of love we owe to them for the religious liberty that is ours, the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society, represented by their executive committee, at their last annual session, voted cordially and unanimously to publish this biography.
