During the years since this book was first published in 1993 there have very few developments in the technology of magnetic particle inspection apart from improvements in instrumentation which has made the measurement of peak values of time varying currents practicable. The major changes have arisen from health and safety and environmental concerns. These involve chemicals and exposure of personnel to air-borne electromagnetic fields and long wave ultraviolet (UY.A). The changes in the acceptability of certain volatile halogenated hydrocar bons which led to the banning of 1, 1, 1 thichloroethane in 1995 were evident in 1993. The present discussions concerning the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in general was also current and has now reached a stage where the effects of these deliberations will become evident over the next few years. Concerns over the exposure of personnel to airborne electromagnetic fields has been current for some years as has discussions to the effects of long wave ultraviolet (UY.A) on human skin. Recommendations as to maximum permit ted exposures over periods of time to both of these phenomena have been put forward and will doubtless form the basis of future legislation on the matter. A number of new specifications have appeared notably EN (European) and ISO specifications and some of these are still in preparation. Generally their impact will be minimal since these specifications are largely derived from existing documentation.

This book covers the technology of inspection of metals, the main emphasis on final part inspection at the manufacturing facility or on receipt at the user's facility. The unique feature of this book is that it provides an intermediate level introduction to the different methods used to inspect metals and finished parts and a more detailed review of the specific inspection methods for important metal product forms. The book is divided into two parts: Part I gives the basics of the most important methods used for inspection and testing, while Part II covers the types of methods used to inspect different classes of metallic parts. The advantages and limitations of each method are discussed, including when other methods may be warranted. In particular, the chapters on specific product forms (e.g., castings) compare the different inspection methods and why they are used.

This volume provides a comprehensive overview of recent developments in magnetic particle imaging (MPI), a novel imaging modality. Using various static and oscillating magnetic fields, and tracer materials made from iron oxide nanoparticles, MPI can perform background-free measurements of the particles’ local concentration. The method exploits the nonlinear remagnetization behavior of the particles and has the potential to surpass current methods for the detection of iron oxide in terms of sensitivity and spatiotemporal resolution. Starting from an introduction to the technology, the topics addressed include setting up an imaging device, assessment of image quality, development of new MPI tracer materials, and the first preclinical results. This is the first book to be published on magnetic particle imaging, and it will be an invaluable source of information for everyone with an interest in this exciting new modality.

"Magnetic Particle Inspection: Techniques, Applications, Interviews Q&A, and Glossary" is a complete guide to the non-destructive testing technique of magnetic particle inspection (MPI). This NDT book covers the fundamental principles of MPI, including the types of magnetic fields used, the properties of magnetic particles, and the various types of equipment used in the process. In addition to the basic principles, the magnetic particle testing book also covers advanced topics such as selecting the appropriate current for wet or dry inspection, the use of UV light in MPI, and the demagnetization process. To provide readers with practical insights into the application of MPI, the magnetic particle inspection book includes interviews with experts in the field, who share their experiences and tips on best practices. Finally, the book features a glossary of MPI terms and definitions, making it a valuable reference for both beginners and experienced practitioners. Whether you are new to the field of Magnetic testing or looking to enhance your existing knowledge, "Magnetic Particle Inspection: Techniques, Applications, Interviews Q&A, and Glossary" is an essential resource that will help you develop a comprehensive understanding of this important non-destructive testing technique.

This comprehensive book covers the five major NDT methods - liquid penetrants, eddy currents, magnetic particles, radiography and ultrasonics in detail and also considers newer methods such as acoustic emission and thermography and discusses their role in on-line monitoring of plant components. Analytical techniques such as reliability studies and statistical quality control are considered in terms of their ability to reduce inspection costs and limit down time. A useful chapter provides practical guidance on selecting the right method for a given situation.

This proceedings volume gathers the outcomes of the International Conference on Engineering Research and Applications (ICERA 2019), which was held at Thai Nguyen University of Technology, Vietnam, on December 1-2, 2019 and provided an international forum for disseminating the latest theories and practices in engineering research and applications. The conference focused on original research work in a broad range of areas, including Mechanical Engineering, Materials and Mechanics of Materials, Mechatronics and Micromechatronics, Automotive Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Information and Communication Technology. By sharing the latest advances in these fields, the book will help academics and professionals alike to revisit their thinking on sustainable development.
