In the late 1960s, Patsy Channing, a stunningly beautiful young woman, was suspended from the venerable Mississippi State College for Women for breach of conduct. The resulting scandal reached all the way to the Columbus courthouse, and the press ate it up. But Patsy’s story starts long before that, living with a preoccupied and troubled mother in Memphis, Tennessee. As Patsy grows up, she buries the memories of her unspeakable childhood trauma and is determined to have a normal life. Music becomes her ticket out and a vehicle for the one thing she covets most—a chance to be crowned Miss America. In Confessions of a Southern Beauty Queen, Julie Hines Mabus provides a peek into that world—a world struggling through the civil rights movement, reeling from the death of JFK, and cutting loose with the musical innovations from Memphis and Detroit. Patsy develops a close friendship with a guitarist at Stax Recording Studio, giving her firsthand exposure to the early Memphis Soul Sound created by such greats as Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, and Sam & Dave. Confessions of a Southern Beauty Queen opens and closes with the end of Patsy’s time at Mississippi State College for Women on that fateful spring morning in 1968 when she entered the Columbus courthouse. Patsy’s story, marked with tragedy and triumph, mirrors that of a growing and evolving South, where change never comes easy.

This book examines how the armed forces of the United States and Australia have responded to the threat posed by climate change to national security. Drawing on established securitisation frameworks (‘Copenhagen’ and ‘Paris’ Schools), the author uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative techniques to systematically examine more than 3,500 speeches, policies and doctrinal articles since 2003. Importantly, the author undertakes an examination of the intersection between the political and the military spheres, probing the question of how ideology has influenced the military’s uptake on the issue. In this context, the author identifies the difficulty of an ostensibly apolitical institution responding to what has become both a hyper-political issue and an unprecedented security threat. A close examination of the key political actors – their intent, outlook and political mandate for broader climate action – is therefore crucial to understanding the policy freedom and constraints within which military leaders operate. The book consists of eight chapters divided into four parts, focusing on: perspectives and methodological insights; empirical case studies; case study comparison; and concluding observations. • Offers a rare and systematic examination of military climate policy by a military officer from Australia• Identifies a divergence of Australian military climate policy from that of the US military during the Obama Administration• Develops a unique method that quantifies climate security, enabling a graphical representation for quick and ready reference ideally suited to policy-makers

The third Antichrist is here, just as Nostradamus predicted—and Adam Sabir is the only man who can prevent hell from reigning on earth, in the final Nostradamus installment Five centuries ago, Nostradamus wrote of three Antichrists. Two, Napoleon and Hitler, have already bathed the world in blood—but it is the third who will bring the Apocalypse. And his time has come. In the mountains of Moldova, a ruthless tyrant is hailed as the Second Coming of Christ. In the gypsy camps of Romania, a woman's unborn child could change the course of the world. In a polluted sinkhole in Mexico, four siblings pledge themselves to vengeance. Only scholar Adam Sabir, guardian of the lost prophecies of Nostradamus, knows what will happen when these destinies collide. He alone has decoded the identity of the Third Antichrist. He alone knows the one who can prevent this tyrant's rise. The fate of the world is in his hands. The countdown to Armageddon has begun.

Over the last years of our country's war efforts, one of the struggles of our warriors and their families is getting refreshing rest and sleep. There are many factors that contribute to this reality. Wartime training, operational schedules, traumatic experiences, family life stress, sleeping environments, and even diet can impact a warrior's ability to connect with their Creator's gift of rest and sleep. While military agencies have connected with many in the medical and psychological field to address this problem, I was certain that the Scriptures could also be a resource for warriors' rest. One of the most influential warriors of the biblical tradition is King David. In the Book of Psalms, many of his reflections can be found on his combat and political experiences. As I have studied these with the theme of sleep and rest in mind, I have noticed key themes of rest that David wrestled with in the Psalms. Over the course of David's life, he faced various situations that brought on considerable levels of danger, stress, anxiety, and uncertainty. It was in these times that David learned to rest in a relationship with his God. My prayer is that the reflections found in this short book would encourage warriors and their families toward a relationship with God that follows in the footsteps of David. The book is divided into four chapters that follow a gradual development from night's distress, to perspective, onto praise and into hope for a new morning. While there are several other Psalms not written by David that address rest and sleep, I have selected the Psalms of this ancient warrior-king because of his correlating experiences with our contemporary warriors.
