In the four years since the first Trieste Meeting on Spin and Polarization Dynamics in Nuclear and Particle Physics, considerable progress has been made both in the theoretical and experimental aspects of this field. The polarization phenomena have given rise to many more detailed and crucial tests which enhance our understanding of particle physics. New information can also be uncovered in the process of conducting the various tests. For this reason, considerable efforts have been put into the present and future accelerators to extend the experimental data to measure polarization asymmetries for both polarized targets and polarized scattered and produced particles. The 2nd Adriatico Research Conference held in January 1992 brought together both theorists and experimentalists who presented many new findings. These findings have been compiled into this compact volume to give a complete picture of the wide range of theoretical and experimental problems, difficulties, results, prospects and hopes which are at the core of particle physics studies today. It will be a useful guide for the present status of polarization phenomena and their fundamental implications.

This book collects all of the invited papers and contributions to the Discussion Sessions, presented at the 13th European Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics, and is addressed to senior and young researchers and students interested in the field of few-body problems in elementary particle and nuclear physics, as well as in atomic and molecular physics. The volume contains a survey of recent, and not yet published results on theoretical and experimental investigations of the structure of hadrons and hadronic systems, novel theoretical methods suitable for an accurate treatment of the few-body problems in different fields, present status and future developments in muon catalysed fusion. A detailed illustration of the few-body physics programs of running (MIT-Bates, CEBAF, CERN, HERA, Mainz, NIKHEF, SATURNE, Saskatchewan, SLAC , TRIUMF) and proposed (European Electron Facility Project, Indiana cooler beam) experimental facilities represents a valuable feature of the book.

The International Conference on Nuclear and Particle Physics was held at the University of Glasgow in the spring of 1993. Many areas of current and future interest in nuclear and particle physics are explored in the seventeen invited papers presented in this volume. These include: the latest physics from LEAR, HERA and LEP; reviews of QCD lattice gauge theory; information on the new generation of accelerators at LHC and SSC; and the search for the Higgs boson. Topics at the forefront of nuclear physics include: relativistic heavy ion physics; the physics of unstable nuclei; pion and photon absorption mechanisms; nuclear cluster states; and chiral symmetry in nuclei. Exciting new areas to be investigated by high energy continuous beam electron accelerators and radioactive ion beam accelerators are also described. This volume presents a valuable cross section of the leading edge of research in the areas of nuclear and particle physics.
