Why do love relationships fail? A more appropriate question is why do many succeed? Finding answers to both questions is analogous to defining infinity impossible because the unknowns are infinite and this author will not go there. However, two aspects of lasting love loom extremely important, namely, the origin of love that indefinable spark of attraction that unites people and the admirable quality of ingenuity that is required for relationships to survive. Love In Reverse and Scarred For Life are fictional attempts to highlight those aspects of lasting love.

What if the pain and difficulties that arise in relationships are not something to run away from but, rather, are the keys to true intimacy and more personal freedom? What if the situations that arise when the honeymoon is over, offer the secret doorway to freedom, joy, and bliss? That secret doorway is what the authors of 'Falling in Love Backwards, an Unlikely Tale of Happily Ever After' discovered in their journey on the path of relationship together. They'd been on parallel paths in many ways, both traveling the world, looking for answers to the deep questions in life and for a true partner. They were each committed to freedom and to living awake, and had gone as far as they could go on their own. The rest of the healing would need to take place in the depths of an intimate relationship. Their relationship didn't start out with a fantasy love bubble; in fact, he wasn't that interested in her because she "didn't fit his pictures" of who his partner should be. But as they stood in the center of a real and alive connection, they took on the challenges that were there from the beginning, head on. In the process, they discovered a Happily Ever Afterbetter than they dreamed was possible. By sharing their story, they hope that you can too.

But it is possible and we serve a God who promises over and over again that anything is possible. Pete Wilson, pastor and the author of Plan B, presents a new look at the power of healing through hope, revealing 4 unique choices that have the potential to change your life forever. With Wilson’s telltale cadence and candor, Let Hope In explores accounts of seemingly hopeless moments in the Bible illustrating God’s ultimate plan for healing by letting hope fill the dark places of your past. Discover how pain that is not transformed becomes transferred. Embrace the freedom of being okay with not being okay. Learn that a life of trusting is far more magnificent than a life of pleasing. Because hurt people hurt people, but free people have the power to free people. So make today the day that you get unstuck. The day you fill your past with the light of hope, the day you say good-bye to regret and shame. The day you choose to change your future and embrace who God created you to be, simply by making the choice to let hope in.

Genre: Art
ISBN: 9780226074061

A book of heroic dimensions, this is the first full-length biography of one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century—a man as fascinating, difficult, and compelling as the paintings he produced. Drawing on exclusive access to Mark Rothko's personal papers and over one hundred interviews with artists, patrons, and dealers, James Breslin tells the story of a life in art—the personal costs and professional triumphs, the convergence of genius and ego, the clash of culture and commerce. Breslin offers us not only an enticing look at Rothko as a person, but delivers a lush, in-depth portrait of the New York art scene of the 1930s, ’40s, and ’50s—the world of Abstract Expressionism, of Pollock, Rothko, de Kooning, and Klein, which would influence artists for generations to come. "In Breslin, Rothko has the ideal biographer—thorough but never tedious, a good storyteller with an ear for the spoken word, fond but not fawning, and possessed of a most rare ability to comment on non-representational art without sounding preposterous."—Robert Kiely, Boston Book Review "Breslin impressively recreates Mark Rothko's troubled nature, his tormented life, and his disturbing canvases. . . . The artist's paintings become almost tangible within Breslin's pages, and Rothko himself emerges as an alarming physical force."—Robert Warde, Hungry Mind Review "This remains beyond question the finest biography so far devoted to an artist of the New York School."-Arthur C. Danto, Boston Sunday Globe "Clearly written, full of intelligent insights, and thorough."—Hayden Herrera, Art in America "Breslin spent seven years working on this book, and he has definitely done his homework."-Nancy M. Barnes, Boston Phoenix "He's made the tragedy of his subject's life the more poignant."—Eric Gibson, The New Criterion "Mr. Breslin's book is, in my opinion, the best life of an American painter that has yet been written . . . a biographical classic. It is painstakingly researched, fluently written and unfailingly intelligent in tracing the tragic course of its subject's tormented character."—Hilton Kramer, New York Times Book Review, front page review James E. B. Breslin (1936-1996) was professor of English at the University of California, Berkeley, and author of From Modern to Contemporary: American Poetry, 1945-1965 and William Carlos Williams: An American Artist.

A man disappears. The woman who loves him is left scarred and haunted. In her fierce, one-of-a-kind debut, Rebecca Lindenberg tells the story—in verse—of her passionate relationship with Craig Arnold, a much-respected poet who disappeared in 2009 while hiking a volcano in Japan. Lindenberg’s billowing, I-contain-multitudes style lays bare the poet’s sadnesses, joys, and longings in poems that are lyric and narrative, at once plainspoken and musically elaborate. Regarding her role in Arnold’s story, Lindenberg writes with clear-eyed humility and endearing dignity: “The girl with the ink-stained teeth / knows she’s famous / in a tiny, tragic way. / She’s not / daft, after all.” And then later, playfully, of her travels in Italy with the poet, her lover: “The carabinieri / wanted to know if there were bears / in our part of America. Yes, we said, / many bears. Man-eating bears? Yes, of course, / many man-eating bears.” Every poem in this collection bursts with humor, pathos, verve—and an utterly unique, soulful voice. This widely anticipated debut, already selected as a finalist for several prominent book awards, marks the first collection in the newly minted McSweeney’s Poetry Series. MPS is an imprint which seeks to publish a broad range of excellent new poetry collections in exquisitely designed hardcovers—poetry that’s useful and meaningful to anyone in any walk of life.

A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

They're too broken not to find each other, he's too broken to make it out alive. Ina-Baby is a collection of linked love stories told in reverse order of mutual abuse. He's pathetically suicidal and she's a bit of a sadomasochist though not one to feel sorry or take shit from anybody, let alone a crybaby like him. What could've ever drawn them together in the first place? Well, it's kinda-sorta like they're star-crossed lovers if they weren't as completely effed in the head as they are, and as effed in the head as they are for each other. She's got her whiskey and sweet red wine and he's got his SURGE!. She's a child of divorce, which is sad, but no real explanation, and he's got a list of childhood trauma that's too long to be believed (and history of histrionics), which he won't stop reliving on the page and in caffeinated temper tantrums. In the end, which is the beginning, he can't let go of the past, and she can't let go of the facts. It's unclear which is healthier everyone concerned--for two of them to stay together, for them to get as far away from each other as they can. But hey, it's a fun ride along the way (said no one who's ever been in an abusive relationship like this).

So, she flees again, back to the city, to her parents’ house, leaving the guys behind. These are the final three novellas (Her Undoing, Their Battle and Their Treasure) in the six-part long Scarred Cliff serial, a reverse harem #WhyChoose story. This novella may include any of these elements: steamy scenes, ‘I need tissues NOW’ moments, cries of ‘why, oh, why’ and cliffhangers that make you bite your nails (and curse the author). This story includes MF and MM scenes. Author note: This series deals with topics which can be hard for some people, like abuse by a partner and the fallout of the suicide of a side character (which happened in the past but plays an important part in this story).
