This book chronicles the proceedings of the International Symposium on Apparent and Microscopic Contact Angles, held in conjunction with the American Chemical Society meeting in Boston, August 24--27, 1998. The symposium provided an opportunity to discuss several controversial issues associated with interfacial phenomena that govern the behavior of

Abstract: Comparisons are presented of predicted values of flow angles and those measured using detectors close to the surface of the forward portion of fuselages of a large-scale, triangular-wing, wind-tunnel model at low speeds and a 35° swept-wing fighter airplane in flight. Effects of flap deflection on the upwash of the triangular-wing model are included.

The flow field was surveyed at one station (X/D = 6.5) on an ogive- cylinder having a tangent ogive nose with a fineness ratio of 4. The surveys were performed with pitot tubes and cone pressure probes at angles of attack of 0, 5, 10 and 15 degrees for Mach numbers 3.52 and 4.07. Surface static pressures were also measured. The results of the tests are presented in tabular and plotted form. Comparisons are made with inviscid flow fields calculations and with experimental results from other investigations.

Visual illusions are compelling phenomena that draw attention to the brain's capacity to construct our perceptual world. The Compendium is a collection of over 100 chapters on visual illusions, written by the illusion creators or by vision scientists who have investigated mechanisms underlying the phenomena. --

Radio Programming: Tactics and Strategy

Radio Programming: Tactics and Strategy

A practical handbook for programming directors, this guide focuses on achieving specific objectives in today's modern, competitive environment. Radio Programming is designed to convey underlying principles and to assist the programmer in accomplishing specific objectives, without mandating exact implementation methods. Instead, it empowers station management and the PD to implement strategies that will work for the particular format and market niche. Radio Programming will be helpful for neophytes in programming, experienced programmers seeking further growth, air talent seeking to develop skills, and general managers trying to understand programming and effectively manage program directors without stifling creativity. It will also help general managers hire effective programmers. Eric Norberg is the editor and publisher of the Adult Contemporary Music Research Letter and a radio consultant. He has worked as a program director at several radio stations, as on-air talent and general manager, and has also operated a radio production company. For fourteen years he has written a weekly column on radio programming for The Gavin Report, a radio trade publication.

Hypersonic Lifting Body Windward Surface Flow-field Analysis for High Angles of Incidence

Hypersonic Lifting Body Windward Surface Flow-field Analysis for High Angles of Incidence

Formulation and application of a windward surface flow-field (inviscid and viscous) analysis is presented for general lifting body configurations at high angles of incidence under hypersonic perfect gas conditions. The technique applies a strip theory concept, leading to an infinite extent yawed body treatment applied in the windward surface crossflow plane for both the inviscid and viscous (boundary layer) flow fields. The boundary-layer analysis is based on the governing equations for yawed blunt body boundary layers.
