Excerpt from Livingston's Law Register: Containing the Name, Post Office, County and State of Every Lawyer in the United States; Also, a List of All the Counties, With Their Shire-Towns, and the Legal Rates of Interest in Each State At the end of the volume will be found other useful matters, not the least important of which are the various legal forms for the authentication of instruments in writing in every State. To commis sioners, judges, county clerks, and other officers whose duty it is to take the acknowledgment of conveyances of real estate, these forms will be found most convenient, and an observance of them will avoid much expense and trouble. Insufficient certificates, made by acknowledging officers, have unsettled the title to much property, and originated no inconsiderable amount of litigation. It is now a settled rule of law, that the forms and solemnities required to pass the title must be in conformity with the local laws of the country in which the land is situated.
