Little Turtle or Me-She-Kin-No-Quah, as he was known to his people, was the great chief of the Miami Indians who lived in the upper Mississippi River valley and the St. Lawrence basin. The Miamis were one of the more powerful and warlike tribes in the Ohio area until after the War of 1812. He was born in 1752 in what is now Indinana. He died in 1812. Descendants live in Indiana and other parts of the United States.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko, a Polish-Lithuanian born in 1746, was one of the most important figures of the modern world.
