It is my writings, in which I speak, that keep me. And in my writings, seems my only release of pain and horror of yesterdays. Let me try to show you, what I mean. Let us go back to a time when "love" over powered "hate". When neighbors and families raised our children. Back to a time when all people knew God. Times before war and political battles! All people knew "love". Do you remember those days? Some how "loving" someone means differently to each individual. And to our children, what have they to say? What have we taught them? As for me, my children's loss is great. I pray all is not in vain. I sat one day, pondering issues I have no control over. As I often do! And God gave me this poem with the events of September 11th, which has inspired this book! The Time has come; to Redefine our Leader's from our Ruler's Our people's eyes reveal the pain, And the abuse of unprevented vain. We fight now, against others of terrorism, Yet not seeing the horror of communism here. For most are pawns to a system who fails, We helplessly listen to our future leaders cry out to prevail. The "evil doer's" against us, the scars, we now carry, Are we able to have them buried? The abuse of power, misleading our future, One day will we find "love" to be mutual? As men, in power, boast and cover their evil ways, Is our federal government going to stop this decay? In memory of September 11th, 2001, World Trade System, USA! Let it NOT be in vain. Together we can stand united against evil, within our own system, as well! I beg you take action here, as well as afar. It is God who sent me, and you! Together, we have the power to stop this "hate" by loving instead. It was told here, in our Holy Bible in Rev.8:13...(Then I looked, and heard an eagle crying with a loud voice, as it flew in mid-heaven, "Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets which the three angels are about to blow!") We all seen and felt the Eagle Cry. We must see the pits of hell are wide open now! God is our only refuge! Time is near, now how do we heal?

In this powerful, unforgettable memoir, acclaimed novelist Darin Strauss examines the far-reaching consequences of the tragic moment that has shadowed his whole life. In his last month of high school, he was behind the wheel of his dad's Oldsmobile, driving with friends, heading off to play mini-golf. Then: a classmate swerved in front of his car. The collision resulted in her death. With piercing insight and stark prose, Darin Strauss leads us on a deeply personal, immediate, and emotional journey—graduating high school, going away to college, starting his writing career, falling in love with his future wife, becoming a father. Along the way, he takes a hard look at loss and guilt, maturity and accountability, hope and, at last, acceptance. The result is a staggering, uplifting tour de force. Relatable, heartbreaking, and real, this is a story of resilience--the perfect novel for readers of powerful contemporary fiction like Girl in Pieces and Every Last Word. Before, I was a million things. Now I'm only one. The Burned Girl. Ava Lee has lost everything there is to lose: Her parents. Her best friend. Her home. Even her face. She doesn't need a mirror to know what she looks like--she can see her reflection in the eyes of everyone around her. A year after the fire that destroyed her world, her aunt and uncle have decided she should go back to high school. Be "normal" again. Whatever that is. Ava knows better. There is no normal for someone like her. And forget making friends--no one wants to be seen with the Burned Girl, now or ever. But when Ava meets a fellow survivor named Piper, she begins to feel like maybe she doesn't have to face the nightmare alone. Sarcastic and blunt, Piper isn't afraid to push Ava out of her comfort zone. Piper introduces Ava to Asad, a boy who loves theater just as much as she does, and slowly, Ava tries to create a life again. Yet Piper is fighting her own battle, and soon Ava must decide if she's going to fade back into her scars . . . or let the people by her side help her fly. "A heartfelt and unflinching look at the reality of being a burn survivor and at the scars we all carry. This book is for everyone, burned or not, who has ever searched for a light in the darkness." --Stephanie Nielson, New York Times bestselling author of Heaven Is Here and a burn survivor

We have all been wounded and scarred by battles. That is life. As a Christian, we don’t want others to see us as weak or lacking in faith, so we cover those scars and hide that pain. This Bible study offers the readers a detailed plan on how to heal from life’s scars and use them to further God’s kingdom. It is focused on 2 Corinthians 12:9 and shows the reader step-by-step how to deal with weaknesses and scars, how to heal from those scars, and how to let God’s power rest on you through your own weakness.

The surprising science of hearing and the remarkable technologies that can help us hear better Our sense of hearing makes it easy to connect with the world and the people around us. The human system for processing sound is a biological marvel, an intricate assembly of delicate membranes, bones, receptor cells, and neurons. Yet many people take their ears for granted, abusing them with loud restaurants, rock concerts, and Q-tips. And then, eventually, most of us start to go deaf. Millions of Americans suffer from hearing loss. Faced with the cost and stigma of hearing aids, the natural human tendency is to do nothing and hope for the best, usually while pretending that nothing is wrong. In Volume Control, David Owen argues this inaction comes with a huge social cost. He demystifies the science of hearing while encouraging readers to get the treatment they need for hearing loss and protect the hearing they still have. Hearing aids are rapidly improving and becoming more versatile. Inexpensive high-tech substitutes are increasingly available, making it possible for more of us to boost our weakening ears without bankrupting ourselves. Relatively soon, physicians may be able to reverse losses that have always been considered irreversible. Even the insistent buzz of tinnitus may soon yield to relatively simple treatments and techniques. With wit and clarity, Owen explores the incredible possibilities of technologically assisted hearing. And he proves that ears, whether they're working or not, are endlessly interesting.

An explosion of research on bullying has raised our collective awareness of the serious impacts it can have on children. No longer do we accept it as an innocuous rite of passage, just a part of growing up that we grin and bear and grow out of later. But do we grow out of it, or are there lingering effects that last well beyond the school playgrounds and lunchrooms? Is bullying traumatic and, if so, does it last into adult life? Are there life-long consequences or are the effects pretty much shed as people grow? Are some of us more resilient than others? Are there any positive or unexpected outcomes as a result of being bullied (or having been a bully) as a child? In an effort to answer these questions, Bullying Scars describes childhood bullying from the vantage point of those victims, bullies, and bystanders who are now adults; the book discusses how lives have been changed, and explores the range of reactions adults exhibit. The research gathered for this book, through interviews with over 800 people, points out that even adult decision-making is often altered by the victimization they experience as children at the hands of peers, siblings, parents, or educators. Written in an engaging and accessible style that draws heavily from the rich interview data that deLara has collected, this book will be of interest to anyone struggling with the lingering effects of being bullied. Additionally, it is highly relevant to mental health professionals -- counselors, therapists, social workers, clinical psychologists -- working with clients who are dealing with these issues.
