Ginny Chandoha hasn't just written a book about Lichen Sclerosis, it's also a book about what we in the naturopathic profession call "nature cure." If you remove the obstacles that prevent your body from working correctly, it will tend to fix itself. The mass of harmful substances that we put in and on our bodies is staggering. As Ginny points out, if you feed yourself well and quit dousing yourself in toxins, you will be well on your way to feeling better. And if you do have Lichen Sclerosis, read the entire book, because Ginny also provides details on how she cured herself using herbs and other therapies. In fact, I'm confident that her protocol will help people with many diseases, including other autoimmune issues. This could literally be a textbook in the naturopathic medical curriculum. Its content is vast, deep, and well-researched. Although I've been involved in natural medicine for twenty years, I still benefit from periodic reminders about how to live well. This book is a strong reminder. I improved my diet and cleaning products immediately upon reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and read it again from cover-to-cover. It's one of those books every health care practitioner should read, and one that everyone would benefit from reading, and re-reading periodically. Lichen sclerosus or LS is a lingering, fiery skin illness. It causes white, thin, patchy parts of skin that may feel itchy and painful and may even tear and bleed. This usually affects the skin around the genitalia and anus but also affects other parts of the upper body, such as the breasts and the upper arms. How the condition is acquired is still commonly unknown to doctors, but cases have been noted that it affects men and women, children and adults alike. According to a study. It is ten times more common in women than in men, prevalent in 1 out of 30 older women and 1 in 900 girls before they reach puberty. There is no cure to completely eradicate this condition, but there are several ways to make living with it bearable. There are several treatments to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by LS. Another way to support these treatments is to follow a diet program that will be beneficial to you, which is called the lichen sclerosus diet. In this guide, you will discover the following: What lichen sclerosus is about How it affects people Symptoms and treatments What foods to eat and avoid when diagnosed with LS Whether you’re curious about this condition or are diagnosed with it and are trying to find alternative ways to deal with LS, this guide will be useful in providing that information.

Hair is a major component of the body's tissue system that contributes to the individual's make up and confers a large degree of personal identity. Apart from its visible façade, hair also has a functional role. It has an unique structure and complex molecular development. The very nature of hair makes it a suitable marker for the prognosis of disease. Hair can also be used to screen for toxins and changes in the diet. However, there are currently no suitable publications available that describe hair in a rational scientific context. This handbook provides an academic approach to hair in health and disease. Divided into five sections the Handbook of Hair in Health and Disease provides an insight into hair growth and loss, molecular and cellular biology of hair, dietary toxicity and pathological history, diseases and treatments of hair, as well as shampoos and conditioners. Unique features of each chapter in this volume include relevant and useful 'Key facts' which highlight interesting or important findings of the specific subjects and 'Summary points' that will give a clear overview of the subjects treated in each chapter. The Handbook of Hair in Health and Disease will be essential to a variety of users, such as trichologists, doctors and nurses and all those interested or working within the area of hair health. This includes nutritionists and dieticians, scientific beauticians, health workers and practitioners, college and university lecturers and undergraduate and graduate students.

Why another dermatology text? In 1973, when Drs. Nasemann and Sauerbrey wrote the introduction to the first edition of Haut krankheiten und venerische Infektionen. they addressed this question. They promised their book would be concise and profusely illustrated to best teach the fundamentals of dermatology. The German text, now in its fourth edition, has been widely successful. In undertaking an American revised translation of their work, it was my hope to meet a need in the English-language literature similar to that met by the German text. I believe that both students and non dermatologic physicians will find this volume a useful introduction to the art and science of treating skin disorders. The practice of dermatology differs from country to country. This text is therefore not simply a translation, but an adaptation that incorporates much new material. In the pages that follow, I have built on the successful framework of the German text, incorporating its excellent photographs and other teaching aids. Discussion of therapy has been extensively revised to reflect current practice in the United States. Original chapters on male infertility and proctology (two dermatologic domains in Germany) are not included in this book. They have been replaced by wholly new chapters on cutaneous surgery and tropical dermatology. We are grateful to Ronald G. Wheeland, M.D., for contributing the surgical chapter.
