Excerpt from The British Bee Journal, and Bee-Keeper's Adviser, 1879-80, Vol. 7 Our aim has ever been the improvement of bee-culture, and in view of the rapid strides that have been made in that art since the British Bee Journal came into existence, six years ago to-day, it must be admitted on all sides that it has not lived in vain. By its efforts, the great lever of progress, 'association, ' has been brought to bear against the conservation of ideas which bound the bee-keepin g world, and taught that improve ment was needless; and, indeed, almost per sueded it that finality had been reached. And even at the present time, so blissful is the ignorance which rules in many parts of this great country, that every attempt at improve ment is scouted as new-fangled and worthy only of contempt, and failure in such, from whatever cause, is hailed with delight as evidence of the same. Nevertheless, there is a happy brotherhood of gentlemen spread over the land, who, having been awakened to the importance of improved methods of honey gettz'ng, -which is practically the real object in bee-keeping, - have been content to abide the sneers of the unenlightened; and missionary like, have established about them a following that is ever increasing, and will eventually include all but those who are too old to learn or too proud to admit that they have been misguided.
