Neill McLaurin was born 1 August 1792 in Richmond, North Carolina. His parents were Duncan McLaurin and Catherine. He married Jane McCall in 1816 and they had a daughter, Christiana McLaurin (1827-1908). Christiana married James Lovett Simmons (1822-1905) in 1854. Their daughter, Sorintha Lillian, married William Joel Stevenson (1856-1918), son of William G. Stevenson and Eliza Jane Sheppard in 1884. Their daughter, Kate Sheppard Stevenson (1888-1960) married Nelson Elder Smith (1889-1946), son of Robert Baker S. Smith (1854-1905) and Mary Elder McClure (1853-1897) in 1913 in Lauderdale, Mississippi. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Scotland, Ireland, Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Richard King (ca. 1700-1782) was born near Dublin, Ireland and emigrated to the American colonies, settling in New York, Philadelphia, New Jersey and Rowan, North Carolina. His first wife Mary Ann died in 1729 in Philadelphia. His second wife Margaret Barclay he married in 1735 in New Jersey, by whom he had seven children. Other family members settled in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania and Augusta, Virginia. Descendants settled throughout the United States.

Thomas Keen (1833-1894) was born in Berkshire, England, a son of John Thomas Keen and Mary Ann Copperwait. He married Emily Ruth George (1836-1890), a daughter of Frederick George and Mary George, in 1857. They emigrated to America in 1868, settling in Tennessee. They had fourteen children. Most descendants are in Tennessee and Illinois.
