"[Lakeport] was settled by Abraham Folsom about 1766 and originally called Folsom's Mills; thereafter from 1825, Batchelder's Mills, until about 1830 it began to be called Lake Village, which name it retained until 1891 when the name was changed to Lakeport. Originally, the neighborhood now known as Lakeport was part of Meredith on one side of the Winnipesaukee River and of Gilmanton (Gilford after 1812) on the other. This manufacturing, commercial, and port settlement--once called Lake Village--became part of the city in Laconia in 1893. The area around today's Lakeport Dam became the site of sawmills and gristmills for the Euro-American settlers of the late 1760s. By the mid-1800s, textile and hosiery mills, factories, foundries, and machine shops had grown up around the abundant waterpower of the dam. With the coming of the railroad in 1848, Lake Village became an important railroad town--with repair shops, a roadhouse, and homes for scores of railroad workers. Beginning in the mid-1800s, boat building--especially of lake steamers--was also an important industry. Just before joining with the town of Laconia, Lake Village renamed itself Lakeport. By then, the two communities had expanded toward each other, forming one continuous urban neighborhood.

West Lakeport is the sequel to the book, Mulburn. After Amy and Chad reunited last Christmas Eve, both their lives took a turn that neither one of them expected. Amy thought her days of being with Bill Williams were over until he showed up one horrible evening at her front door. Amy ends up in a coma at Tawas General, and once again, her childhood friend, Tim Blackett, is her attending physician. During this time, Chad is unable to deal with her condition because he is still mourning the death of his beloved grandmother. Meanwhile, there is a mysterious young woman that is traveling with her infant daughter, on a journey toward Mulburn. What is it about her appearance that turns the peaceful town of Mulburn upside down? Her arrival brings surprising revelations that will forever change the lives of the residents of Mulburn.
