"A story rich in detail, written in a style easy to read, exciting, swift-moving. It combines sound scholarship with vivid understanding of a child's taste and joys." This story brings to life one of the most important voyages of history, the sailing of the First Fleet, under Captain Phillip, to Botany Bay. With John and his sister, Sue, we share the excitements and hopes of the long sea-way, the sights and sounds of strange ports, the adventures of a little family following Papa, an officer of the Marines, to the then unknown end of the earth. John gets into many a scrape with his dog, Gyp; he goes on exploring expeditions with Captain Phillip; he sees the 'hopping animal' of which he has heard so much, and manages to be in the midst of everything interesting as any boy would. The story is skilfully woven of true facts and incidents which might have happened to a boy lucky enough to sail as John sailed with Captain Arthur Phillip. "Doris Chadwick has a sure taste for all the little details that children of today want to know about the children of other times. Miss Chadwick studied all the documents and old manuscripts abot1t the First Fleet until she knew exactly what happened every day of the long voyage. And against this background of fact her characters--John, Sue and all the personalities of the Sirius, from Captain Arthur Phillip to the cook, emerge as living people." -Kylie Tennant

John plays his part in founding the new colony: he explores the backwoods with Governor Phillip to find fresh water, and helps to build a home for Mamma and Papa and a 'cubby' for his sister Sue. He and Sue, too, help Mamma to sow seeds in the garden so that later they shall have fresh fruit and vegetables. He catches a baby 'hopping animal', makes friends with the First Australians, and finds again his friend with the cheeky grin. A man with three different names ties together the stars of professional wrestling, country music, and the New York Mets. John Arezzi was a lifelong Mets fan who dreamed of a job in baseball. In 1981, he took a job with the Mets Class A team in North Carolina. But Arezzi had another love: professional wrestling. He ran a fan club for the villainous “Classy” Freddie Blassie as a teenager, then progressed to wrestling photographer, and finally even stepped into the ring himself as John Anthony. Eventually he escaped to pursue a new life in altogether different world: country music. After adopting a new name, John Alexander, his many accomplishments include discovering both Patty Loveless and (decades later) Kelsea Ballerini. But wrestling is tough to shake … In the 1990s, Arezzi hosted the pioneering radio talk show Pro Wrestling Spotlight. He also ran the first major conventions, assembling a wrestling who’s who to meet with fans. He promoted shows, both at home and abroad, and was a key figure behind importing lucha libre into America. Mat Memories is Arezzi’s chance to hold the mic, and he holds nothing back — he names names and tells the untold behind-the-scenes stories: from the ring, the stage, and the diamond.

This book is about Sirius, one of Australia and Sydney's best known brutalist buildings and social housing successes. Through numerous battles and green bans, confrontation, arrests in the 1970s, The Rocks Green Ban was lifted for Sirius to be built for local residents who were displaced by The Rocks redevelopment. It has been a rare example of successful public housing since it opened in 1980. By 2015, the NSW Liberal government wants the building and its residents gone. Protection of the building was rejected by its own NSW Heritage Council recommendation to list Sirius on the State Register. This book celebrates Sirius the place, and its history and people. It is one of the few architectural social history books tracking the fight to save the building throughout 2016-2017 and discusses the many long time residents, advocates and the original design by Tao Gofers.

The path to victory starts on the sidelines, in this fast-paced new middle grade series from #1 New York Times bestselling sportwriting powerhouse John Feinstein. Twelve-year-old Jeff Michaels, son of a Philadelphia TV sports reporter, is just learning to play soccer on the new sixth-grade team at his middle school. Andrea Carillo has fought her way onto the squad, but the coach doesn’t think girls should play with boys, so she’s riding the bench with Jeff—even though she’s one of the best players. With Jeff’s help, the Philly media gets ahold of the story, and suddenly Andi is all over the news as she shows her worth on the soccer field. But amid bullies, threats, and a media firestorm, will Andi’s skills and Jeff’s perseverance be enough to save the season? From sportswriter John Feinstein comes this action-packed novel about two kids who may be "benchwarmers," but prove themselves naturals when it comes to teamwork, friendship, and finding a path to victory.
