The series of recollections in this book reflect many episodes from throughout my life and career. When I initially began teaching in schools in England, in English and Theology, I had no particular expectations of where my teaching experiences would lead me. As my teaching career unfolded, it gradually became apparent to me that, regardless of the subject matter ostensibly under review, it was the communication of that subject matter that was of paramount importance. The style and tone of that communication, and the way the students were treated, would make all the difference to whether a connection could be made with those students and thus whether the subject matter would be transmitted at all. These recollections will hopefully illustrate this principle whether as an Adviser within the Sydney Teachers College English department, or lecturing at the Nurses Communication Course. Most particularly, my many teaching and learning experiences led me to the field within which good communication is both fundamental and indispensable English for Special Education.

Lod Airport, Israel: Two Concorde jets take off for a U.N. conference that will finally bring peace to the Middle East. Covered by F-14 fighters, accompanied by security men, the planes carry warriors, pacifists, lovers, enemies, dignitaries -- and a bomb planted by a terrorist mastermind. Suddenly they're forced to crash-land at an ancient desert site. Here, with only a handful of weapons, the men and women of the peace mission must make a desperate stand against an army of crack Palestinian commandos -- while the Israeli authorities desperately attempt a rescue mission. In a land of blood and tears, in a windswept place called Babylon, it will be a battle of bullets and courage, and a war to the last death.

Apostasy is defined as a falling away from, or a deliberate abandonment of, what had been established scriptural principles and doctrine. This is exactly where the broader Church is today on the doctrine of divorce and remarriage. Written from an Evangelical Protestant perspective we examine this apostasy and its ramifications to the broader Church, society and individuals. The authors' own 40 year journey vividly underscore the theme. Christians from the first 1900 years of the Church would not recognize today's doctrine as Christian. Jesus' exact teachings are examined in depth as are those of Paul. Jesus' definition of the divorced and remarried as adulterers is paramount to the entire discussion. Adultery is one listed reason for exclusion from the kingdom. The differences between legalism and grace are examined and explained. The outcomes to individuals, and society, are listed and backed with scripture, history, and facts; demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt.

Drummond (law, McGill U.) focuses on the delivery of justice in Inuit communities in northern Quebec in order to investigate the complexities and contradictions of accommodation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal legal systems. She argues that the conflicts project an incommensurability between underlying cultural codes, and reflects on intercultural history, concepts of identity and belonging, and communication across cultures and genders. In this immensely captivating and imaginative novel, perfectly set at the intersection of fact and fiction, Dan Barden superimposes the story of John Wayne on the story of the Bardens, a family very much like his own. Frank Barden, Wayne's contractor, is an Irish Catholic from New York who has come to California in pursuit of the American dream. His wife, Lillian, becomes disappointed in the reality of the dream, and questions her faith in men like Frank and John Wayne. In fictionalized episodes ranging from Wayne's first love at sixteen to his deathbed conversion to Catholicism, this novel offers a surprisingly intimate vision of John Wayne and tells the poignant story of a family struggling to stay intact.
