Irrigated pastures have not entered into common farm practice in the highly productive and high-priced lands contributing to some of our larger milk sheds. But test plantings in such counties as Orange, River side, and Los Angeles have demonstrated that, on lands where seepage losses are not too high, such pastures actually effect a marked saving in feed costs over the customary practice of feeding green (clipped) alfalfa, or alfalfa hay, and concentrates.
