Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Iota Pi Omega Chapter was chartered in December 1972 in Brevard County, Florida in the city of Rockledge. Brevard County, not to be confused with Broward County, is often referred to as the Space Coast. Seventeen young women, college graduates from various colleges and universities and mostly employed by the Brevard County School District, bonded together to establish an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Chapter in Brevard County. The rest is history, timeless treasures demonstrating perseverance and dedication. It was a historical moment in a place where making history in the 20th century was quickly becoming a hallmark. The chartering of the chapter was certainly one small step for women of color and one giant leap for the seventeen women who were bonded together by this great sisterhood. Iota Pi Omega has been about the mission of providing timeless service and priceless memories for over four decades where history making has become the norm.
