Five thirty-somethings are horrified to receive an invitation to the funeral of the man who sexually abused them all at some point in their youth; the man they thought had died in front of them sixteen years ago. The story chronicles their attempts to discover the reason behind the invitation, the truth about his death and the consequences of their discoveries. This story spans from 1967 through to 1987, beginning in the coastal city of Portsmouth and culminating in the hauntingly beautiful cointryside around Corbridge and Hexham in Northumberland.

The Open Invitation explores the relationship between prefigurative politics and activist video. Schiwy analyzes activist videos from the 2006 uprising in Oaxaca, the Zapatista’s Other Campaign, as well as collaborative and community video from the Yucatán. Schiwy argues that transnational activist videos and community videos in indigenous languages reveal collaborations and that their political impact cannot be grasped through the concept of the public sphere. Instead, she places these videos in dialogue with recent efforts to understand the political with communality, a mode of governance articulated in indigenous struggles for autonomy, and with cinematic politics of affect.

We live in a day of fast information, fast fingers, fast food, fast shipping, fast words, fast anger, and fast judgment. Our fight-or-flight impulses keep us on high alert, aided by mobile devices that vibrate each time another crisis strikes. All this fastness can easily interfere with a slow, intentional life grounded in God’s love. Christian faith has deep treasures and practices to offer us. How will we live, and who will we be in this highly charged era where politics, economics, environment, and social norms are under significant duress? Come explore quieter, more intentional ways of being, and how these might attune us to the slow work of God in order that we might love one another and the world as God does. Our chapters pair a lure to move fast with an invitation to slow. Becoming slow to anger is an invitation to empathy, slow to judge is an invitation to humility, and slow to grasp is an invitation to contentment. Ultimately, each of these invitations is a movement toward God.

We like to think our church welcomes visitors. But how welcoming can we be, if we are not inviting? We are welcoming as long as people get themselves across the church threshold, but we fail to take our welcome outside. During the years Michael has been developing Back to Church Sunday, he has conducted an extensive study on the seemingly simple subject of 'invitation'. Over 650 times in 12 countries he has asked: 'Why don't we invite our friends to take a closer look at Christ?' The many answers form the impetus for this book. After considering why it seems so hard to invite friends to church, Michael looks at our concerns over acceptance and rejection, and suggests ideas gleaned from years of trying to establish a culture of invitation. 'When I have specifically encouraged Christians to issue an invitation, some people say yes and some no. God sent his son to invite us all into a relationship, and so to be like God is to be a person who invites!'

Two young, female patients are found dead in a semi-private mental hospital in Queens. Each is found on the floor in their rooms, jugulars slashed. The hospital classifies them as suicides—but when a third patient is found dead, a terrifying question arises: is there a serial killer on the loose in the hospital? The FBI Behavioral Unit calls in its star criminal profiler, Tracy Wrenn, to provide her unique insights to crack the case. Immersed in the world of the hospital, Tracy encounters a wide array of disturbing and perplexing characters, each with their own level of psychosis. Tracy must plunge into the depths of the disturbed minds of both inmates and staff as she tries to sort out what is real and what is fantasy, and as she begins to learn just how twisted the human mind can be. A shocking twist culminates in an ending Tracy can never expect, as she finds herself on the brink—and can only hope to return. Book #3 in The Killing Game will be released soon.
