It was carnival time on Earth. Prosperity was at its peak; science had triumphed over environment; all human needs were taken care of by computers, robots and androids. There was nothing left for humans to do but enjoy, themselves . . . to seek pleasure where they found it, without inhibitions and without thinking of the price. Then an android died - in a senseless, brutal murder. And young Derry Horn was shocked out of his boredom and alienation. His life of flabby ease had not prepared him for a fantastically dangerous mission to outlying, primitive stars - but now, at last, he had a reason for living. And even when he found himself a prisoner of ruthless slavers, even when he learned the shocking truth about what the androids really were and where they came from . . . even when he saw all the laws of the orderly, civilised universe he knew turned upside-down and inside-out . . . he fought on. For that universe had to be shattered and reborn - even if Derry Horn and the Earth he had irrevocably left behind died in the process! (First published 1968)

Octavia E. Butler meets Marvel’s Black Panther in The Deep, a story rich with Afrofuturism, folklore, and the power of memory, inspired by the Hugo Award–nominated song “The Deep” from Daveed Diggs’s rap group Clipping. Yetu holds the memories for her people—water-dwelling descendants of pregnant African slave women thrown overboard by slave owners—who live idyllic lives in the deep. Their past, too traumatic to be remembered regularly is forgotten by everyone, save one—the historian. This demanding role has been bestowed on Yetu. Yetu remembers for everyone, and the memories, painful and wonderful, traumatic and terrible and miraculous, are destroying her. And so, she flees to the surface escaping the memories, the expectations, and the responsibilities—and discovers a world her people left behind long ago. Yetu will learn more than she ever expected about her own past—and about the future of her people. If they are all to survive, they’ll need to reclaim the memories, reclaim their identity—and own who they really are. The Deep is “a tour de force reorientation of the storytelling gaze…a superb, multilayered work,” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) and a vividly original and uniquely affecting story inspired by a song produced by the rap group Clipping.

The Iralians were humanoid and techically free citizens of the Galactic Empire. But as slaves they were prized above all others, for they had the unique capacity to transmit acquired knowledge through heredity. And so when the space mercenary Wanderer was hired by GLASS (Galactic League for the Abolition and Supression of Slavery) to take a cargo of Iralians home it was going to be a simple task! For one thing, they'd be hunted by interstellar slavers for their priceless passengers. For another, the Iralians themselves had other ideas which included mutiny and high treason. And for the third and worst, they were too close to the Horsehead Nebula, whose capacity for warping time, space and the dimensions was a permanent Red Alert for all spacecraft.

In what N. Katherine Hayles describes as "this enormously ambitious posthumous volume," renowned scholar George Slusser offers a definitive version of the argument about the history of science fiction that he developed throughout his career: that several important ideas and texts, routinely overlooked in other critical studies, made significant contributions to the creation of modern science fiction as it developed into a truly global literature. He explores how key thinkers like René Descartes, Benjamin Constant, Thomas DeQuincey, Guy du Maupassant, J.D. Bernal, and Ralph Waldo Emerson influenced and are reflected in twentieth-century science fiction stories from the United States, Great Britain, France, Germany, Poland, and Russia. The conclusion begins with Slusser’s overview of global science fiction in the twenty-first century and discusses recent developments in countries like China, Romania, and Israel. Hayles’s foreword provides a useful summation of the book’s contents, while science fiction writer Gregory Benford contributes an afterword providing a personal perspective on the life and thoughts of his longtime friend. The book was edited by Slusser’s former colleague Gary Westfahl, a distinguished scholar in his own right.

Kynance Foy was young, beautiful, intelligent an highly trained in both qua-space physics and business law when she left Earth to seek her fortune in the interstellar outworlds. But she found that the further she got from Earth, the tougher became the competition from the environment-hardened populations of these young worlds . . . and by the time she reached the planet Nefertiti, she was facing poverty. Then, unexpectedly, a wonderful opportunity opened up for her: the job of Planetary Supervisor of the fabulously wealthy world called Zygra, where exotic pelts costing a million credits each were grown. The salary was huge, and at the end of the year's tour of duty she would be transported free of charge back to Earth, where she would be a very wealthy young woman. There had to be a catch to it, she thought as she signed the contract. And, of course, there was. (First published 1966)

This is the book of a long storied novel, entitled as 'The Skyfall' containing a few side stories also, certain imaginary scenes, episodes, events and incidences, characters, dialogues and some other very interesting phenomena, underlying a few more fanciful and also to some extent more factual descriptions of life or living pertaining to family and the outward society. It has been divided into two parts. Part 1st is based on 1 to 8 chapters and the Part 2nd covers as many as 9 to 14 chapters in all. This novel is, really speaking, a mixture of tragedy, romance and comedy. Hence, the running spirit of the story looks like a perfect novel because of the fact that I preferred to choose such a new style; it corresponds to my taste. There is a variety of wonderful imaginations which are attempted to be produced in such a way as to look like the real one. As such, the role of imagination has also been tried to be highly lighted; it was necessary from the literary point of view. In its analysis the book is entitled as 'The Skyfall' which basically contains five love stories, three wide spread kingdoms and eight devastative battles. The main Story is related to a person's deep love and lust for obtaining a state and becoming a king of such a kingdom or state. Apparently he looks normal but internally he is a villain having the madness for achieving his goal. 'The Skyfall', the name, appears dreadful, may it be so, because apparently the meaning of the title so given is 'bursting forth of the sky'. May not, nowhere happen so; if any how anywhere lt happens, the result will be shaking heart, disastrous and horrible. But it is certain that it will happen at every cost before the day of judgment, the so called 'Qayamat' when the whole universe will be destroyed and nothing shall remain in being except God. However, in spite of all this I have tried my best to create a healthy and harmonious atmosphere, an amusing as well as a most charming situation along with a peculiar pleasantness and also a tinge of sweetness in putting up the scenes, the characters, the dialogues etc. running between the major figures of the story or novel-hero and heroine, if there in, and so on. It's of course a nice book of fictions or story or stories in which basically the characters of L. W. Doson, A. Adams, A. Doson, L. Lorenzo, R. Doson, Am. Doson, M. Arden, B. Jonson, R.D. Spenser, M. Robinson and J. Watson have artistically been produced to read and relish the sweet, sour and saline flavors implied there in. A brief account of their different characters has also been given in the onward passages. I believe that the story of the novel must have all that which the readers may desire and expect. I have been passionate to a plausible extent to enrich the story of the novel with some of the heart touching experiences of life. I am sure that the readers will find in it the flavor of their personal interests, viz., pain, pleasure, pathos, thrill, dismay, terror, excitement, horror, love, hate, sympathy, apathy and also so much, so that. But apart from all these qualities it has been my strenuous efforts to shield out the story from the suspense with a view to let the readers feel free and entirely relaxed.
