Many process management books focus on manufacturing applications. A few discuss services applications and occasionally some comment on the information processes outside of the normal information technology (IT) function. When a business seeks to improve the processes it uses in order to provide efficiency and cost savings to a product or service, that business needs to consider its manufacturing, service, and information handling processes together because they are not independent. This book has two goals: First, to help business practitioners integrate their management of manufacturing or service processes with information processes; and second, to provide business schools with a textbook that can be used for a basic process management course to precede or accompany the typical operations management course. Because information handling approaches vary considerably with organizational size, both large and small business approaches are discussed. This discussion is focused on basic concepts rather than specific technical aspects like what type of information hardware to be used. One chapter will discuss the considerations necessary when adding information process management to enterprise resource planning (ERP), statistical process control (SPC), and supply chain logistics approaches from both large and small business perspectives.

Updated to the latest standard changes including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and OHSAS 18001:2016 Includes guidance on integrating Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Organizations today are implementing stand-alone systems for their Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, or AS 9100), Environmental Management System (ISO 14001), Occupational Health & Safety (ISO 18001), and Food Safety Management Systems (FSSC 22000). Stand-alone systems refer to the use of isolated document management structures resulting in the duplication of processes within one site for each of the management standardsQMS, EMS, OHSAS, and FSMS. In other words, the stand-alone systems duplicate training processes, document control, and internal audit processes for each standard within the company. While the confusion and lack of efficiency resulting from this decision may not be readily apparent to the uninitiated, this book will show the reader that there is a tremendous loss of value associated with stand-alone management systems within an organization. This book expands the understanding of an integrated management system (IMS) globally. It not only saves money, but more importantly it contributes to the maintenance and efficiency of business processes and conformance standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, FSSC 22000, or other GFSI Standards.

It shows how such processes ensure optimum utilization of people, process, and technology resources during the management and delivery of IT projects. The book provides insight into the key components of the Rational Unified Process from IBM Rational Corporation and the Project Management Body of knowledge PMBOK from the Project Management Institute (PMI) illustrating how they work together and align based on industry processing standards."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Business Intelligence (BI) and Big Data Analytics (BDA) are business related tasks and processes, which are supported by standardized software solutions. The book explains that this requires business oriented thinking and acting from IT specialists and data scientists. It is a good idea to let students experience this directly from the business perspective, for example as executives of a virtual company. The course simulates the stepwise integration of the linked business process chain ERP-SCM-CRM-BI-Big Data of four competing groups of companies. The course participants become board members with full P&L responsibility for business units of one of four beer brewery groups managing supply chains from production to retailer.

This book offers a comprehensive guide to implementing a company-wide management system (CWMS), utilising up-to-date methodologies of lean-six sigma in order to achieve high levels of business excellence. It builds the foundation for quality and continuous improvement, which can be implemented in any organization. The book begins with an introduction to and an overview of CWMSs, and reviews the existing literature on various management systems. It then discusses the integration and implementation of lean-six sigma in supply chain management. The integration approach presented highlights the link between the existing management systems and shows how continuous improvement methodologies are incorporated. The book then examines the components of CWMS, comparing them to other systems. It also explores Kano-based six sigma and concludes with further recommendations for reading. This book covers five management systems integrated into one novel approach that can be followed by organizations wishing to achieve quality and business excellence. Covering lean-six sigma – an essential element of management systems – it is a valuable resource for practitioners and academics alike.
