Classical and Recent Aspects of Power System Optimization presents conventional and meta-heuristic optimization methods and algorithms for power system studies. The classic aspects of optimization in power systems, such as optimal power flow, economic dispatch, unit commitment and power quality optimization are covered, as are issues relating to distributed generation sizing, allocation problems, scheduling of renewable resources, energy storage, power reserve based problems, efficient use of smart grid capabilities, and protection studies in modern power systems. The book brings together innovative research outcomes, programs, algorithms and approaches that consolidate the present state and future challenges for power. - Analyzes and compares several aspects of optimization for power systems which has never been addressed in one reference - Details real-life industry application examples for each chapter (e.g. energy storage and power reserve problems) - Provides practical training on theoretical developments and application of advanced methods for optimum electrical energy for realistic engineering problems

This book highlights original research and recent advances in various fields related to smart cities and their applications. Bringing together new contributions by prominent researchers from around the globe, the book is a rich pedagogical tool and an inspiring research support for courses on computer science, electrical engineering, and urban sciences. The book gathers papers presented at the 7th International Conference on Smart City Applications (SCA 2022), held on October 19–21, 2022, in Castelo Branco, Portugal. The technical program of SCA 2022 consisted of 80 papers. The keynote speakers were Eng. Loide Monteiro (Foundation Smart City Cape Verde), Prof. Teodora Vuckovic (University of Novi Sad), Prof. Susana Sargento (University of Aveiro), Prof. Andy Van Den Dobblesteen (TU Delft), and Prof. Juan Corchado (University of Salamanca). SCA 2022 provided a good forum for all researchers to discuss all aspects of science and technology that are relevant to smart city applications.

This proceeding constitutes the thoroughly refereed proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Combinatorial and Optimization, ICCAP 2021, December 7-8, 2021. This event was organized by the group of Professors in Chennai. The Conference aims to provide the opportunities for informal conversations, have proven to be of great interest to other scientists and analysts employing these mathematical sciences in their professional work in business, industry, and government. The Conference continues to promote better understanding of the roles of modern applied mathematics, combinatorics, and computer science to acquaint the investigator in each of these areas with the various techniques and algorithms which are available to assist in his or her research. We selected 257 papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 741 submissions. The presentations covered multiple research fields like Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, internet technology, smart health care etc., brought the discussion on how to shape optimization methods around human and social needs.

This book covers sensors and multiple sensor systems, including sensor networks and multi-sensor data fusion. It presents the physics and principles of operation and discusses sensor selection, ratings and performance specifications, necessary hardware and software for integration into an engineering system and signal processing and data analysis. Additionally, it discusses parameter estimation, decision making and practical applications. Even though the book has all the features of a course textbook, it also contains a wealth of practical information on the subject.

Cardiac arrest can strike a seemingly healthy individual of any age, race, ethnicity, or gender at any time in any location, often without warning. Cardiac arrest is the third leading cause of death in the United States, following cancer and heart disease. Four out of five cardiac arrests occur in the home, and more than 90 percent of individuals with cardiac arrest die before reaching the hospital. First and foremost, cardiac arrest treatment is a community issue - local resources and personnel must provide appropriate, high-quality care to save the life of a community member. Time between onset of arrest and provision of care is fundamental, and shortening this time is one of the best ways to reduce the risk of death and disability from cardiac arrest. Specific actions can be implemented now to decrease this time, and recent advances in science could lead to new discoveries in the causes of, and treatments for, cardiac arrest. However, specific barriers must first be addressed. Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival examines the complete system of response to cardiac arrest in the United States and identifies opportunities within existing and new treatments, strategies, and research that promise to improve the survival and recovery of patients. The recommendations of Strategies to Improve Cardiac Arrest Survival provide high-priority actions to advance the field as a whole. This report will help citizens, government agencies, and private industry to improve health outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest across the United States.
