Originally setting out to write the very book that he would have wanted to own as a young infantryman, the author penned On Tactics as a remedy for navigating the chaotic and inchoate realm of tactical theory. Challenging centuries-old conventional wisdom regarding the principles of war, tactics, and the roles of strategy, doctrine, experiential learning, and military history, Friedman's work offers a striking synthesis of thinking on tactics as well as strategy. Part One of the book establishes a tactical system meant to replace the Principles of War checklist. First, the contextual role of tactics with regards to strategy and war will be established. This will necessarily lean on major strategic theories in order to illuminate the role of tactics. This section will be formed around the Physical, Mental, and Moral planes of battlefield interaction used by theorists such as J.F.C Fuller and John Boyd. Each plane will then be examined in turn, and many of the classic Principles of War will be discussed along with some new ones. It will present some standard methods that tacticians can use to gain an advantage on the battlefield using historical examples that illustrate each concept. These "tactical tenets" include maneuver, mass, firepower, tempo, surprise, deception, confusion, shock, and the role of the moral aspects of combat. Finally, Part One will circle back around by discussing the role of tactical victory- once achieved- in contributed to a strategy. Part One is short by design. It is intended to be both compelling and easily mastered for junior non-commissioned officers and company grade officers, while still rich enough to be interesting to both specialist and non-specialist academics. It is a book meant not just for bookshelves but also for ruck sacks and cargo pockets. Part Two builds on Part One by exploring concepts with which the tactician must be familiar with such as the culminating point of victory, mission tactics and decentralized command and control, offensive and defensive operations, and the initiative. Part Three will conclude the book examining implications of the presented tactical systems to a variety of other issues in strategic studies.

If pictures can be sexist, can analyzing sound reveal sexism, too? Where is the language to discuss sexism in music? LJ Müller tackles these important questions in their 2018 German book titled Sound und Sexismus, which was awarded the IASPM 2019 book prize. Analyzing the voices of Kurt Cobain, Kate Bush, Björk and others, Müller demonstrates how gender is performed vocally and interacts with gendered aspects of embodiment and affect. The book is written from a strongly positioned and personal feminist perspective and is appealing to readers from various backgrounds - singers, producers, music lovers, as well as academics and anyone with an interest in feminist takes on pop culture.

Join the growing number of people who are discovering the fun and excitement of team handball! With more points scored than soccer and more continuous action than basketball, team handball has been a popular international sport for years, and now its popularity is on the rise in the United States. No wonder--this fast-paced team sport lets players take full advantage of their running, jumping, and throwing abilities. Written by two former U.S. Olympic players and expert coaches, Team Handball: Steps to Success presents 12 easy-to-follow steps to becoming an accomplished player. Each step is an easy transition from the one before. The first steps provide a solid foundation of basic skills and concepts. As players progress, they’ll learn how to combine these skills to attack the goal, decide when to pass and when to shoot, and support their teammates when attacking and defending. The final steps show how teammates can organize as a unit in attack and on defense and how good communication contributes to the effectiveness of the team. Team Handball: Steps to Success features 62 drills that develop players’ shooting, dribbling, passing, and catching skills. The drills come with performance goals and a list of key points to remember in executing them. Plus, many drills include instructions for increasing or decreasing the difficulty of the drill. By studying the book’s 187 illustrations and following the simple instructions, players will learn • why each skill or concept is important, • the keys to proper technique, • how to analyze and correct common errors, • how to practice the skills in game-like situations, and • how to check their progress. The book’s appendixes explain the basic rules of the game and show how to modify a given floor space to create a team handball court. Part of the highly popular Steps to Success Activity Series, this book will help players learn the game quickly and provide the foundation for their future development.

Ensure your staff and children feel happy and secure in their school environment, with the help of Whole-School Strategies for Anger Management. This book has a much wider perspective than the other more traditional anger management resources available. It considers a whole-school approach, including a tried-and-tested programme with resources for pupils as well as a new ground-breaking staff development element. A facilitator guide, with a programme of activities, PowerPoint presentations and resources, will guide staff in looking at how they manage their strong emotions and how they can help to create classrooms in which strong emotions are handled effectively. Anger can be difficult to manage, but it is an essential part of being human and is a potentially useful emotion. Getting in touch with our emotional intelligence can help us to understand our own anger and to understand children's anger. The book highlights the importance of continually trying to manage our feelings effectively, especially in the roles of leader, teacher, teaching assistant and other support workers. The development of an anger management strategy in a school should be considered as part of a whole-school approach to managing behaviour. Whole-School Strategies for Anger Management will ensure you feel confident to bring about the changes necessary for a happy and secure learning environment. Starting from the premise that managers will structure the process, but that implementation will be carried out by staff, this publication provides training and support at several levels by: recognising the effects of staff behaviour on student outcomes teaching the skills for problem solving, managing conflict and de-escalating angry behaviour understanding the components of anger setting up pupil anger management groups. With a whole-school approach, this resource allows staff to consider the significance of their relationship with students and the various ways that anger can be managed throughout all aspects of school life.

This book has two purposes. First, it is fundamentally about groups at work, both as they attempt to accomplish their goals and as they operate in organizational settings. Second, it draws together group researchers from social psychological and organizational studies. Each chapter focuses on a central issue regarding groups as they work and examines that issue by drawing from both social psychological and organizational research. Thus, this book centers on the convergence and divergence of these two fields.

Air Force members who do not routinely cross a defended perimeter when deployed may not have received sufficient training for doing so when they need to. The authors conducted surveys and interviews to determine the kinds of experiences airmen have had "outside the wire," worked with subject-matter experts to categorize them and suggest training levels, and developed a series of recommendations for course content and further areas for study.
