A Muslim scholar with extensive experience in Africa, T. Abdou Maliqalim Simone was recruited by the Islamic fundamentalist Shari‘a Movement in Sudan to act as consultant for its project to unite Muslims and non-Muslims in Khartoum's shanty towns. Based on his interviews with hundreds of individuals during this time, plus extensive historical and archival research, In Whose Image? is a penetrating examination of the use of Islam as a tool for political transformation. Drawing a detailed portrait of political fundamentalism during the 1985-89 period of democratic rule in the Sudan, Simone shows how the Shari‘a Movement attempted to shape a viable social order by linking religious integrity and economic development, where religious practice was to dominate all aspects of society and individuals' daily lives. However, because Sudanese society is remarkably diverse ethnically and religiously, this often led to conflict, fragmentation, and violence in the name of Islam. Simone's own Islamic background leads him to deplore the violence and the devastating psychological, economic, and cultural consequences of one form of Islamic radicalism, while holding to hope that a viable form of this inherently political religion can in fact be applied. As a counterpoint, he ends with a discussion of South Africa's Call of Islam, which seeks political unity through a more tolerant interpretation of Islam. As an introduction to religious discourse in Africa, this book will be widely read by students and scholars throughout African Studies, Religious Studies, Anthropology, and Political Science.

In this book, Julia Fullerton tells of the struggle she has undergone and is still undergoing from a narrow, fundamentalist upbringing to becoming who she is today. Her struggle, though common to all, is distinctly unique to her. She tells her story simply, with heartrending honesty. It is poignant, raw, and sensitive without becoming maudlin, or overly dramatic. Julia's first book, Navigating the Impasse told parts of her story in a series of short allegorical cameos. This book tells it more thoroughly, as narrative. Her love of scripture is evident throughout the book, as is her willingness to travel down the rabbit warrens her thoughts, and ponderings take her as far as she can. In this book, Julia invites you to follow her on her meanderings, but more than that, she encourages you to find your own pathways to your own discovery of self to your own unique expression of and relationship with God.

Whose Image Are you?Showing you how to obtain real deliverance, peace and progress in your life, without unnecessary struggles. INTRODUCTION The Lord God wants us to know that there is perfect healing and deliverance in the name of Jesus and by His blood. There is great peace, joy, progress, success, restoration for the people of God.But the way we go about seeking these things (deliverance, progress, etc) these days is no longer pleasing to God. We have cast away the simplicity that is in Christ, and have replaced it with the heavy yoke of religion. The free deliverance, which is easy to obtain through Christ, doesn't seem to be available anymore. It has been replaced with another type of deliverance, a religious deliverance, which is so hard and costly. People pay so much money, do so much fasting, torture themselves so much all in their bid to obtain deliverance. At the end, they are not really delivered! Their problems remain with them, or even get worse. The purpose of this book is to bring us back to the simple and free way of obtaining perfect deliverance in Christ, without all the religious struggles and troubles that men have imposed on us.Those who have tried the simple ways of Christ, which are in this book, are greatly surprised how so quickly God could make things beautiful again in their lives, without extra cost, without struggles.May God use this book to help bring you into the path of perfect deliverance and progress, which He has obtained for us in Christ Jesus. How is it that in America the image of Jesus Christ has been used both to justify the atrocities of white supremacy and to inspire the righteousness of civil rights crusades? In The Color of Christ, Edward J. Blum and Paul Harvey weave a tapestry of American dreams and visions--from witch hunts to web pages, Harlem to Hollywood, slave cabins to South Park, Mormon revelations to Indian reservations--to show how Americans remade the Son of God visually time and again into a sacred symbol of their greatest aspirations, deepest terrors, and mightiest strivings for racial power and justice. The Color of Christ uncovers how, in a country founded by Puritans who destroyed depictions of Jesus, Americans came to believe in the whiteness of Christ. Some envisioned a white Christ who would sanctify the exploitation of Native Americans and African Americans and bless imperial expansion. Many others gazed at a messiah, not necessarily white, who was willing and able to confront white supremacy. The color of Christ still symbolizes America's most combustible divisions, revealing the power and malleability of race and religion from colonial times to the presidency of Barack Obama.

Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I going? Familiar questions in our day and age. But has our search for answers led us too far in the wrong direction: away from our true position in Christ and toward a dangerous emphasis on self? Recent decades have seen the rise of a powerful and influential movement within the church. Identified by labels such as “self-image,” “self-esteem,” “self-worth,” and “self-love,” this movement has one common denominator—the emphasis on self. Regardless of religious persuasion, everyone seems to be fighting what they perceive to be a shared enemy: low self-esteem. Now well-known biblical counselor and noted author Jay Adams brings much-needed clarification to the area of self-esteem and offers the church and every believer a truly biblical view of self.
