George Blue Spruce Jr. is recognized as the first American Indian dentist in the United States. His life story reaches back to the ancient Pueblo culture cherished by his grandparents and parents and extends to state-of-the-art dentistry and the current needs of the American Indian people. Blue Spruce’s journey begins on the Santa Fe Indian School campus with his parents’ determination that their children would excel academically and obtain college degrees. After graduating from dental school, Dr. Blue Spruce planned to return to the pueblos to treat his people. As it turned out, his destiny reached far beyond: from the wilds of Montana to New York City to San Francisco to South America and back to the United States. In Washington DC, he presented the needs of American Indians to Congress and lunched with the president. Throughout his journey Dr. Blue Spruce has traveled between two cultures, succeeding in mainstream society while keeping Pueblo tradition in his heart. Facing prejudice and conquering adversity, he reached the zenith of his career as director of the Phoenix Regional Indian Health Service and achieving the rank of assistant surgeon general of the United States.

There was a battle for my soul that warm October day in 1939. It was a spiritual battle for my destiny, good versus evil. The weather that twenty-first day was unusually warm, and by the time of my birth at 5 p.m., the thunderstorms were strong, with lightning shooting across the heavens. Another unusual detail of my birth was I was born with a veil over my head. I would later find my superstitious family believed this to be significant. If I had been born in a hospital, no one would probably have known of the veil. But my fathers family took great joy in this fact, and though they went to church, they kept their superstitions as well. To them it meant I would be a fortuneteller or a psychic. However there were conditions to fulfill before that superstition could manifest. For me to receive this gift, the veil must be buried in the ground. If it were burned instead, the gift would never come to pass. This veil is sometimes referred to as a caul or hood that is the thin remnant of the amniotic sac. In medieval times, it was considered to be good luck, and in the psychic community began to be called a veil. It was believed by the psychics that a person born with this veil would have good luck and an unusual destiny. I say, only Gods people have a strange and peculiar destiny. I became His prophet.

Called a "path breaker" among astrology books, with original research and in-depth coverage, the author combines non-technical and technical material very effectively in a compelling narrative. This book contains a riveting choice of biographies and historical, cultural events that illuminate both individual AND collective destinies. When Vedic astrology - the astrology of India - is combined with biography, history, politics, the arts and culture, a key missing component is provided to all of the above. In Search of Destiny is for astrologers, astrology students as well as for the layperson. The only criterion is an interest and openness to astrology. Find out how the planets affect individuals and whole nations and societies, and how the chart of a national leader is never separate from the nation ruled - for as long as he or she is in power. An extensive glossary, footnotes and index help the reader to navigate through the wide-ranging information provided in this book. For the novice, Chapter 2 provides a succinct summary of Vedic astrology and philosophy. Vedic charts are presented in both North and South Indian format, with the lifetime planetary cycles of the Vimshottari Dasha system - for which Vedic astrology is so famous. Any astrologer will benefit from the depth of research done here, and the layperson will find this a user-friendly book that broadens the horizons. "Edith Hathaway's remarkable new book In Search of Destiny is an astrological sensation on many levels. ...A narrative of individual dharma woven in the context of collective destiny.... Her innovative research of the 20-year Jupiter/Saturn cycles over a 1000-year period bears rich historical and thematic fruit... and includes her current and future predictions. I highly recommend In Search of Destiny ..." Dennis Flaherty, Vedic astrologer, President of CVA (Council of Vedic Astrology), Washington, USA.

Y (Spiritual Journey) is a book of spiritual poems that explore an array of human emotions and experiences. For some of you, it is a reflection in the mirror to your soul. For others, it reveals stories you have lived, lingering memories of silent struggles from within. But for all, its intent is to provide insight, inspiration and hope. God is the rock and the foundation of every poem. He is the way, the truth and the light, who will guide you on your journey through this life. Many of the poems like, Hold On, I Cry and Why? are two pages long because the spiritual messages they convey cannot be told in a couple of paragraphs. There are several other poems in this book you will find of interest, such as: Pennies From Heaven, Walk With Me Lord, Dont Give Up, Gods Canvas In the Sky, He Never Promised Us Tomorrow, I Call Your Name, After the Storm and Joy Comes in the Morning. His writings transcend the complete anatomy of the human spirit from the very beginning of life to his inevitable demise. He questioned humanity’s customs and beliefs, trying to bring some measure of understanding to societies’ inequities and injustices and their consequences. However, the most daunting was his search to move from this world to the next with a compelling undying reverence. Driven by an insatiable desire to infusion and utopian world, he is completely optimistic with a vision to see what our world could be—an unforgiving reality of the stark world he did see—humanity’s collative inability and reluctance to change from the beginning of time. With all man’s advances, man has failed to improve his chances to live in peace and harmony. Nothing has been learned from the fable of Cain and Abel. Mankind has always been corrupted by the winds of war but now on the precipice of destroying the very planet of our birth, the most beautiful and majestic in our cosmic search, our only home in this universe.
