Our modern patterns of thinking and learning are all based on observing a world of 'things', which we think of as separate building blocks. This worldview allows us to count and measure objects without their having any innate value; it provides neat definitions and a sense of control over life. However, this approach also sets humans apart from each other, and from nature. In reality, in nature, everything is connected in a fluid, dynamic way. 'Separateness' is an illusion we have created -- and is fast becoming a dangerous delusion infecting how we relate to business, politi, and other key areas of our daily reality.Giles Hutchins argues that the source of our current social, economic and environmental issues springs from the misguided way we see and construct our world. With its roots in ancient wisdom, this insightful book sets out an accesssible, easy to follow exploration of the causes of our current crises, offering ways to rectify these issues at source and then pointing to a way ahead.

“The uncanny beauty of Van Booy’s prose, and his ability to knife straight to the depths of a character’s heart, fill a reader with wonder.” — San Francisco Chronicle Award-winning author Simon Van Booy tells a harrowing and enchanting story of how one man’s act of mercy during World War II changed the lives of strangers, and how they each discover the astonishing truth of their connection. The characters in Van Booy's The Illusion of Separateness discover at their darkest moments of fear and isolation that they are not alone, that they were never alone, that every human being is a link in a chain we cannot see. This gripping novel—inspired by true events—tells the interwoven stories of a deformed German infantryman; a lonely British film director; a young, blind museum curator; two Jewish American newlyweds separated by war; and a caretaker at a retirement home for actors in Santa Monica. They move through the same world but fail to perceive their connections until, through seemingly random acts of selflessness, a veil is lifted to reveal the vital parts they have played in one another's lives, and the illusion of their separateness.

Have you ever questioned why you exist in this specific moment? We wake up, go through our daily routines – the job, the relationships, the memories. We identify with this "self" in the mirror – the one who grew up, interacted, and built a life. But what if that's just a layer, a character we play in the grand drama of existence? This book, The Illusion of Separation: Unveiling the Unified Mind, shatters the comfortable lie. You are not your job, your relationships, or even your thoughts. These are mere costumes draped over a far grander being – the ever-present awareness that has been here since the dawn of time. Awareness arises spontaneously, not caused by anything external. It precedes even the concept of a void, which itself is a product of awareness. The Unified Mind, this boundless essence, actively constructs the appearances we call reality. Our thoughts and experiences are a response to this ever-changing, spontaneous arising of the Unified Mind's manifestation. The illusion lies in the perception of countless separate selves. These are simply the response and interaction with the Unified Mind's manifestations, not independent entities. Ultimately, there exists a single, universal mind experiencing itself through these appearances. This is your true, eternal nature, never born and never dying. Liberation from the illusion of separation comes through identifying with the underlying universal mind that you truly are. Imagine a jolt of awakening – realizing the "you" in the mirror is just a fleeting reflection, while the real you is one with the unified mind of existence. There's no switch to turn consciousness off, no true death for the limitless awareness at your core. Are you ready to shed the mask and sink into the boundless essence of who you truly are? This book is your guide to uncovering the real you and experiencing the liberation of non-duality. Amazon description : Do you ever feel like there's more to you than meets the eye? We get caught up in the daily grind - jobs, relationships, memories - mistaking them for who we truly are. But what if they're just costumes we wear in the grand play of existence? This book peels back the layers of illusion and reveals the Unified Mind, the boundless essence that underlies all of reality. You'll discover: How your thoughts, experiences, and even the sense of self are mere ripples on the surface of a vast ocean of awareness. Why the separation between individuals is an illusion, and how we are all interconnected through the Unified Mind. The path to liberation from this illusion and the profound sense of peace and purpose that awaits when you identify with your true nature. As seen on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday A beacon of hope in the face of our current world crises, this uplifting book demonstrates how embracing our interconnectedness is key to world transformation In a time of social and ecological crisis, what can we as individuals do to make the world a better place? This inspirational and thought-provoking book serves as an empowering antidote to the cynicism, frustration, paralysis, and overwhelm so many of us are feeling, replacing it with a grounding reminder of what’s true: we are all connected, and our small, personal choices bear unsuspected transformational power. By fully embracing and practicing this principle of interconnectedness—called interbeing—we become more effective agents of change and have a stronger positive influence on the world. Throughout the book, Eisenstein relates real-life stories showing how small, individual acts of courage, kindness, and self-trust can change our culture’s guiding narrative of separation, which, he shows, has generated the present planetary crisis. He brings to conscious awareness a deep wisdom we all innately know: until we get ourselves in order, any action we take—no matter how good our intentions—will ultimately be wrong-headed and wrong-hearted. Above all, Eisenstein invites us to embrace a radically different understanding of cause and effect, sounding a clarion call to surrender our old worldview of separation, so that we can finally create the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible. With chapters covering separation, interbeing, despair, hope, pain, pleasure, consciousness, and many more, the book invites us to let the old Story of Separation fall away so that we can stand firmly in a Story of Interbeing.

The planet is suffering. Ecosystems are being destroyed, forests are being cut down, oceans are being contaminated, the air is being polluted, animals are being tortured, people are being oppressed, mistreated, poisoned, and killed. So much suffering is happening on the planet right now, and it is all the result of humanity's actions. Clearly our current way of life is destructive, illogical, and unsustainable, and unless we evolve our way of life and adapt to a new way of living, we will only create more suffering on this planet, destroying more life, and eventually destroying ourselves in the process. All of the suffering that we experience today arises from humanity's actions, and our actions stem from our thoughts and our delusional perception of life. Humanity is operating on the momentum of an ignorant past, and this outdated worldview needs to evolve. We live with the notion that we are separate from one another, that we exist independently of the world around us, and that our individual actions do not impact the planet as a whole. This illusion of separation is the root cause of our suffering, and if we want to heal the planet, we have to heal our ignorant perception of life so that our actions will no longer reflect our ignorance, but will instead reflect an understanding and respect for one another and for the Earth that we inhabit. This book discusses the causes of our ignorance and our destructive actions, and provides the knowledge needed to undo the conditioning that has been done to us, in order to recondition ourselves to live a lifestyle that is in harmony with the natural world. If we want to heal the state of the world, we have to evolve our way of thinking and interacting with the world. As long as we view the world as something that exists separately from us, we will continue to create our suffering. If we want to experience peace on Earth, we have to realize our oneness and awaken from the illusion of separation.

Our contact with the world is through perception, and therefore the study of the process is of obvious importance and signi?cance. For much of its long history, the study of perception has been con?ned to natural- tic observation. Nonetheless, the phenomena considered worthy of note have not been those that nurture our survival—the veridical features of perception—but the oddities or departures from the common and c- monplace accuracies of perception. With the move from the natural world to the laboratory the oddities of perception multiplied, and they received ever more detailed scrutiny. My general intention is to examine the interpretations of the perc- tual process and its errors throughout history. The emphasis on errors of perception might appear to be a narrow approach, but in fact it enc- passes virtually all perceptual research from the ancients until the present. The constancies of perception have been taken for granted whereas - partures from constancies (errors or illusions) have fostered fascination.
