David Kenney, who was a member of the Illinois Constitutional Convention which drew the 1970 Illinois constitution, has revised his now-standard text from first­hand, authoritative knowledge of State government. This new and up-to-date edition therefore includes the latest in­formation on Illinois's government from 1818 to the present. As in the previous edition of his text, Kenney begins with an historical sum­mary of the period preceding statehood. He then discusses the state's political, economic, and social development. The principal strength of the text remains, however, the clear, authoritative descrip­tion of Illinois's modern political struc­ture.
