This book provides readers with an up-to-date account of the use of machine learning frameworks, methodologies, algorithms and techniques in the context of computer-aided design (CAD) for very-large-scale integrated circuits (VLSI). Coverage includes the various machine learning methods used in lithography, physical design, yield prediction, post-silicon performance analysis, reliability and failure analysis, power and thermal analysis, analog design, logic synthesis, verification, and neuromorphic design. Provides up-to-date information on machine learning in VLSI CAD for device modeling, layout verifications, yield prediction, post-silicon validation, and reliability; Discusses the use of machine learning techniques in the context of analog and digital synthesis; Demonstrates how to formulate VLSI CAD objectives as machine learning problems and provides a comprehensive treatment of their efficient solutions; Discusses the tradeoff between the cost of collecting data and prediction accuracy and provides a methodology for using prior data to reduce cost of data collection in the design, testing and validation of both analog and digital VLSI designs. From the Foreword As the semiconductor industry embraces the rising swell of cognitive systems and edge intelligence, this book could serve as a harbinger and example of the osmosis that will exist between our cognitive structures and methods, on the one hand, and the hardware architectures and technologies that will support them, on the other....As we transition from the computing era to the cognitive one, it behooves us to remember the success story of VLSI CAD and to earnestly seek the help of the invisible hand so that our future cognitive systems are used to design more powerful cognitive systems. This book is very much aligned with this on-going transition from computing to cognition, and it is with deep pleasure that I recommend it to all those who are actively engaged in this exciting transformation. Over the years, the fundamentals of VLSI technology have evolved to include a wide range of topics and a broad range of practices. To encompass such a vast amount of knowledge, The VLSI Handbook focuses on the key concepts, models, and equations that enable the electrical engineer to analyze, design, and predict the behavior of very large-scale integrated circuits. It provides the most up-to-date information on IC technology you can find. Using frequent examples, the Handbook stresses the fundamental theory behind professional applications. Focusing not only on the traditional design methods, it contains all relevant sources of information and tools to assist you in performing your job. This includes software, databases, standards, seminars, conferences and more. The VLSI Handbook answers all your needs in one comprehensive volume at a level that will enlighten and refresh the knowledge of experienced engineers and educate the novice. This one-source reference keeps you current on new techniques and procedures and serves as a review for standard practice. It will be your first choice when looking for a solution.

This book contains the papers presented at the 14th International Conference on Field Programmable Logic and Applications (FPL) held during August 30th- September 1st 2004. The conference was hosted by the Interuniversity Micro- Electronics Center (IMEC) in Leuven, Belgium. The FPL series of conferences was founded in 1991 at Oxford University (UK), and has been held annually since: in Oxford (3 times), Vienna, Prague, Darmstadt, London, Tallinn, Glasgow, Villach, Belfast, Montpellier and Lisbon. It is the largest and oldest conference in reconfigurable computing and brings together academic researchers, industry experts, users and newcomers in an informal, welcoming atmosphere that encourages productive exchange of ideas and knowledge between the delegates. The fast and exciting advances in field programmable logic are increasing steadily with more and more application potential and need. New ground has been broken in architectures, design techniques, (partial) run-time reconfiguration and applications of field programmable devices in several different areas. Many of these recent innovations are reported in this volume. The size of the FPL conferences has grown significantly over the years. FPL in 2003 saw 216 papers submitted. The interest and support for FPL in the programmable logic community continued this year with 285 scientific papers submitted, demonstrating a 32% increase when compared to the year before. The technical program was assembled from 78 selected regular papers, 45 additional short papers and 29 posters, resulting in this volume of proceedings. The program also included three invited plenary keynote presentations from Xilinx, Gilder Technology Report and Altera, and three embedded tutorials from Xilinx, the Universit ̈ at Karlsruhe (TH) and the University of Oslo.
