This work covers topics related to the exercise of influence by individuals and groups within organizations. It includes an introductory group of articles dealing with the nature of influence processes and power. With more than two-thirds fresh material, this new updated edition of Organizational Influence Processes provides an overview of the most important scholarly work on topics related to the exercise of influence by individuals and groups within organizations. In selecting articles for inclusion the editors were guided by the conviction that the most useful and interesting way to view organizational influence is to take a directional approach - that is, to consider the process from the perspective of downward, lateral, and upward influence. They have organized the readings around this framework, preceded by an introductory group of articles dealing more generally with the nature of influence processes and power. The book includes both classic readings and the latest cutting edge research from some of the most respected experts writing in the field. It will be equally useful for any upper level undergraduate or graduate course concerned with organizational behavior, group behavior, leadership or power and politics.

This book introduces the civilizations of India, China, and Japan by exploring the ways that specific ideas interact and are expressed in the three cultures before the nineteenth century. The discussion focuses on the understandings of nature, man, and society. An exploration of art touches on symbol, style, meaning, materials, and technique and the author explores ideals of beauty and explains aesthetic assumptions for each civilization. Throughout the text, the author provides historical context and describes the social institutions that were formed in different circumstances.

A selection of highlights from Singapore’s Asian Civilisations Museum, representing the lively trade of goods, ideas, and religious beliefs that has occurred in this famous port throughout its history. The Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) opened in 1997, and has been in its present building by the Singapore River in the heart of the city since 2003. The museum traces its roots to the colonial-period Raffles Library and Museum, founded in the middle of the 19th century. ACM's satellite Peranakan Museum opened in 2008, and presents the art and culture of Southeast Asian mixed-heritage communities. ACM is a National Museum governed by Singapore's National Heritage Board. Singapore’s history as a port city that brought people together from all over the world is used here as a means of examining the history of Asia. The objects presented tell stories of the trade and the exchange of ideas that were the result of international commerce, as well as the flow of religions and faith through Asia. Director Kennie Ting has chosen his personal favourites from the collection, collaborating with ACM curators to provide readers with insightful descriptions of these masterpieces as well as a broad introduction to the museum.

Learn about the ancient Chinese by examining the art they created. This title examines what their art reveals about their history and simultaneously how history explains the art. It explores the Chinese civilization through both the images it produced and cultural artifacts that remain. The title focuses on how art and architecture from a distinct period reflect life at the time, and how we can use the surviving art to understand how people used to live.

A leading scholar in the United States on Chinese archaeology challenges long-standing conceptions of the rise of political authority in ancient China. Questioning Marx's concept of an "Asiatic" mode of production, Wittfogel's "hydraulic hypothesis," and cultural-materialist theories on the importance of technology, K. C. Chang builds an impressive counterargument, one which ranges widely from recent archaeological discoveries to studies of mythology, ancient Chinese poetry, and the iconography of Shang food vessels.
