I Do Solemnly Swear is an in-depth analysis of the meaning and importance of U.S. President's oath of office. The oath requires the President to preserve, protect, and defend the Union by any means and then transmit it unimpaired to his successor. Pauley examines the potential political and legal ramifications of such an oath and its role as a source of presidential power. Beginning with a survey of the history of oaths from the classical world to the modern era, Pauley analyzes the President's oath within the context of American political and constitutional development. Those with scholarly interests in government, politics, or law will find this work enlightening.

Richard Clarke has been one of America's foremost experts on counterterrorism measures for more than two decades. He has served under four presidents from both parties, beginning in Ronald Reagan's State Department becoming America's first Counter-terrorism Czar under Bill Clinton and remaining for the first two years of George W. Bush's administration. He has seen every piece of intelligence on Al-Qaeda from the beginning; he was in the Situation Room on September 11th and he knows exactly what has taken place under the United State's new Department of Homeland Security. Through gripping, thriller-like scenes, he tells the full story for the first time and explains what the Bush Administration are doing.

Smeared by cheap innuendo and false accusations alleging he is responsible for having allowed a bomb aboard Pan Am 103, Micheal T. Hurley, career law enforcement veteran, faces a dilemma as real as his lifetime savings: bet everything that truth would win out in a court of law or just surrender to that which he knows to be wrong. Succumb or fight? Capitulate or resist? I Solemnly Swear captures his answer to that dilemma and presents a diverse group of heroes and traitors, lawmen and outlaws, the innocent and the guilty who bounce between Seattle, Larnaca, London, Washington, DC, Frankfurt, and Fort Lauderdale. In an international game of cat and mouse, Hurley spends his last three years as a DEA Supervisory Special Agent being jerked around by a media that is all too willing to criticize the US Government and to mar Hurley's reputation as a competent international narcotics agent. This is his story.

Solemnly Swear is retired U.S. Air Force Officer Joe Porrazzo's first, in hopefully a long line, of suspense novels. "Mr. Porrazzo's portrayal of the lead character Alex Porter gives the reader an instant connection with Porter's well-developed and believable military personality. The reader bonds with Alex, a trustworthy and incorruptible friend, and Porrazzo gives us more than enough reasons to care about what happens to him. Alex is a former U.S. Air Force special agent whose retired life isn't far removed from the dangers of his previous life as an American soldier. Riddled with guilt over the untimely death of his wife, troubled by nightmares associated with witnessing a grizzly crime scene involving a powerful mafia boss, and struggling with the obstacles of fatherhood, still Alex stands strong and resilient against the pressures of the untouchable antagonist; mobster Vince Vionelli. Mr. Porrazzo's thought-provoking storyline draws the reader in with one of the most impossible dilemmas a person (fictional or otherwise) can ever find themselves in doing what's morally right no matter what the cost or protecting oneself and the ones we love. The narration is smooth and easy to read. The dialogue is refreshingly realistic. And each chapter ends with just enough enticement to make the novel impossible to put down. If you're in the mood for a good mystery/thriller, I highly recommend, Joe Porrazzo's Solemnly Swear. The plot is unique the pace is fast the direction is unpredictable and the final pages are shocking. What a great book with which to spend a weekend! Growing up fundamentalist and female-and maturing into a feminist By the age of twelve, Susan Campbell had been flirting with Jesus for some time, and in her mind, Jesus had been flirting back. Why wouldn't he? She went to his house three times a week, sat in his living room, listened to his stories, loudly and lustily sang songs to him. So, one Sunday morning, she walked to the front of her fundamentalist Christian church to profess her love for Jesus and to be baptized. But from the moment her robe floated to the surface of the baptistery water, she began to question her fundamentalist Christian faith. If baptism requires complete immersion underwater, what does it mean, she wondered, if a piece of fabric attached to a would-be Christian floats to the top? Does the baptism still count? In this lovingly told tale, Susan Campbell takes us into the world of fundamentalism-a world where the details really, really matter. And she shows us what happened when she finally came to admit that in her faith, women would never be allowed a seat at the throne.
