This report describes the application of a humectant chemical to an existing metallized zinc cathodic protection system at a bridge in order to improve the performance of the system. The objective of the application was to reduce the resistance of the zinc/concrete interface, thus increasing cathodic protection current and improving the polarization of the reinforcing steel. Initial results over a two month period indicate an increase in polarization at some reference cell locations and a reduction in the resistance of the zinc/concrete interface.
