How Would You Rule is a lighthearted introduction to fundamental concepts of law through strange but true legal cases. Each chapter tells the story of a different case and presents the main arguments of the opposing parties. The twist? Before the ruling of the court is revealed, readers are challenged to put themselves in the shoes—or the robes—of the judges and decide for themselves how they would rule in these cases. After coming up with their own solutions, readers can learn how the actual judges resolved the disputes. The goal is to get readers to think for themselves about what’s right and what's wrong, sharpening their own instincts for the reasons and analyses that win arguments.

But, what does it really mean? And how do you follow it? A grandfather explains to his grandson that the Golden Rule means you “treat people the way you would like to be treated. It’s golden because it’s so valuable, and a way of living your life that’s so simple, it shines.” The book reveals versions of the Golden Rule found in many cultures and religions, including Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, and Islam. Following the Golden Rule is something everyone can do, which means that every person—old or young, rich or poor—can help make the world a better place.

Distilled from 15 years of lifestyle experiments of the author, to figure out what works, can be sustained for the long-term, and most importantly, is fun. Let the rules set you free.ABOUT THE AUTHORMy name is Ivars Krutainis, and I am a 37-year old Latvian currently residing in Shanghai, China. I work in advertising, but in my free time, I like to travel and conduct lifestyle experiments. You might say that I have had a somewhat unconventional lifestyle for the past 15 years. I've lived and worked in London, Sydney, Amsterdam, and now Shanghai. But I've also taken a considerable amount of time off work in between my various roles. Something that I call mini-retirements. During these mini-retirements, I have travelled extensively. To date, I've been to 136 countries, many of them quite unusual, such as Bhutan, Guinea Bissau, Albania, Samoa, Cabo Verde, and many others. I've travelled extensively in Africa, but I have also visited every one of the 40+ countries in Europe, including San Marino, Lichtenstein, and Andorra (yes, they are all independent countries in Europe). All in all, I've probably spent at least two years of my life just travelling.Besides travel, I've also experimented with entrepreneurship, most notably launching a clothing label for tall, skinny guys called "Skinny Latvian". It failed because I had not the slightest idea of how to manufacture clothing reliably and profitably. I thought to have a cool idea and a brand was enough. But I learned a lot on this journey, and I am sure, one day, I will create a company again. And it will have much better chances of success, based on all the hard lessons I learned the first time around. When not working, travelling or failing, I like to write. I used to write a regular travel blog for many years that I have now closed down. Then I switched to LinkedIn articles about marketing and finally I am graduating to long-form content with this book.

Three Dark Crowns meets Pretty Little Liars in this sensational and striking new fantasy from debut author Ellen Goodlett. Three girls. Three deadly secrets. Only one can wear the crown. The king is dying, his heir has just been murdered, and rebellion brews in the east. But the kingdom of Kolonya and the outer Reaches has one last option before it descends into leaderless chaos. Or rather, three unexpected options. Zofi has spent her entire life trekking through the outer Reaches with her band of Travelers. She would do anything to protect the band, her family. But no one can ever find out how far she's already gone. Akeylah was raised in the Eastern Reach, surrounded by whispers of rebellion and abused by her father. Desperate to escape, she makes a decision that threatens the whole kingdom. Ren grew up in Kolonya, serving as a lady's maid and scheming her way out of the servants' chambers. But one such plot could get her hung for treason if anyone ever discovers what she's done. When the king summons the girls, they arrive expecting arrest or even execution. Instead they learn the truth: they are his illegitimate daughters, and one must become his new heir. But someone in Kolonya knows their secrets, and that someone will stop at nothing to keep the sisters from their destiny... to rule. Magic, mystery, and blackmail abound in the first book of this sensational and striking fantasy duology.

Drawing upon extensive experience in law, government service, teaching, and research, Ronald Cass offers a contribution to the ongoing public discussion on law and society. After opening his discussion with chapters on the rule of law in American society, Cass turns to the hard case of its application to the president of the United States. Through this prism Cass examines the behavior of judges who may not always act according to a "perfect model." This book provides a corrective to criticism of the American legal system raised all too frequently by some members of the academy. Rather than concentrating on relatively minor inconsistencies in the law and slight departures from the ideal of perfectly constrained decision making, Cass argues that the energies of his fellow scholars could be better spent on more serious defects in the legal system. With a special section on the 2000 presidential election, including the Florida recount and Supreme Court decision, The rule of law in America offers a look at a subject of interest to legal scholars and general readers alike.

I’LL BE WATCHING YOU Walking home on a dark night, you hear footsteps coming up behind you. As they get closer, your heart pounds harder. Who is closing in with dangerous intent—a total stranger? Or someone you know and trust? The answer is as simple as turning around, but don’t look behind you . . . run. Ann Rule, who shared her own nerve-jangling account of unknowingly befriending sadistic sociopath Ted Bundy in The Stranger Beside Me, chronicles other fateful encounters with the hidden predators among us in this riveting collection, fifteenth in the bestselling series drawn from her personal files. First in line is a stunning case that spanned thirty years and took a determined detective to four states—ending, finally, in Alaska—where he unraveled not one but two murders. A second case appears to begin and end with the hunt for the Green River Killer, focusing on a Washington State man who was once cleared as a suspect in that deadly chain of homicides. But the millionaire property owner believed he had successfully buried his own murderous past and the awful truth behind his young wife’s disappearance. She vanished soon after she left for a day at the Seattle World’s Fair, and her three small children grew up believing their mother had abandoned them. But one amazing witness remained—the missing woman’s best friend, who heard her last words in a frantic phone call—“He’s coming!”—before the line went dead. Only since Robert Hansen’s suicide has the monster within been revealed. In another true story, a petite woman went to a tavern, looking only for conversation and fun. Instead, she met violent death in the form of a seven-foot man who had seemed shy and harmless. You’ll feel a chill as you uncover these and numerous other cases of unfortunate victims who made one tragic mistake: trusting the wrong person—even someone they’d known intimately, or thought they knew.
