This book covers many questions about how we as a country got to Black American racism. As I found more and more answers, I realized how many of them were totally new to me and how I felt that I had been so deceived about so much of our history. After talking to many people, Black and white, I knew that it wasn't just me who had been deceived. There is so much that has been done to Black Americans over the ages, not just slavery, that I felt everyone could understand better if various truths were revealed. One Black young man I discussed this with seemed to visibly feel better about himself just hearing some of these basic truths. Eugenics, I believe, was worse than slavery. Eugenics founder, Galton, was a first cousin to Charles Darwin. This was all related to Malthus, who decided in 1795 that overpopulation was a dire emergency. Eugenics was the answer to who should be allowed to live or reproduce in order to keep the world population down. The geologic timetable, evolution, overpopulation, and eugenics all came about in the early 1800s before any carbon dating. Who is still pushing this, and how does it all relate to American racism?

Fooled by Randomness is a standalone book in Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s landmark Incerto series, an investigation of opacity, luck, uncertainty, probability, human error, risk, and decision-making in a world we don’t understand. The other books in the series are The Black Swan, Antifragile, Skin in the Game, and The Bed of Procrustes. Fooled by Randomness is the word-of-mouth sensation that will change the way you think about business and the world. Nassim Nicholas Taleb–veteran trader, renowned risk expert, polymathic scholar, erudite raconteur, and New York Times bestselling author of The Black Swan–has written a modern classic that turns on its head what we believe about luck and skill. This book is about luck–or more precisely, about how we perceive and deal with luck in life and business. Set against the backdrop of the most conspicuous forum in which luck is mistaken for skill–the world of trading–Fooled by Randomness provides captivating insight into one of the least understood factors in all our lives. Writing in an entertaining narrative style, the author tackles major intellectual issues related to the underestimation of the influence of happenstance on our lives. The book is populated with an array of characters, some of whom have grasped, in their own way, the significance of chance: the baseball legend Yogi Berra; the philosopher of knowledge Karl Popper; the ancient world’s wisest man, Solon; the modern financier George Soros; and the Greek voyager Odysseus. We also meet the fictional Nero, who seems to understand the role of randomness in his professional life but falls victim to his own superstitious foolishness. However, the most recognizable character of all remains unnamed–the lucky fool who happens to be in the right place at the right time–he embodies the “survival of the least fit.” Such individuals attract devoted followers who believe in their guru’s insights and methods. But no one can replicate what is obtained by chance. Are we capable of distinguishing the fortunate charlatan from the genuine visionary? Must we always try to uncover nonexistent messages in random events? It may be impossible to guard ourselves against the vagaries of the goddess Fortuna, but after reading Fooled by Randomness we can be a little better prepared. Named by Fortune One of the Smartest Books of All Time A Financial Times Best Business Book of the Year

Someone is murdering young gay men in Washington, DC. Does it have anything to do with handsome, wealthy and successful Thomas? Sure, he slept with the young man whose body is found near the bar where Thomas picked him up. But that’s just a sad coincidence, right? Thomas sleeps with a lot of men, because he learned his lesson years ago – no one can stay the night, or get too close. Then Thomas meets Zachary, a vibrant transplant from Utah. Zachary can’t believe it when model-gorgeous Thomas picks him up on his very first time in a gay bar. Too new to the city and gay life, Zachary fantasizes about being more than a one-night stand. The heat between Thomas and him is palpable. So why does Thomas resist seeing him again? Zachary wants more than a single night with Thomas, but he doesn’t know how to break through. He has no idea that his persistence has put him in the sights of a killer… Every Breath You Take is a gay romantic suspense novel with no cliffhanger and a happy ending. Trigger warning for references to child abuse. It is part of the Nights at Mata Hari series but can be read as a standalone.

This intellectually vibrant volume is the first collection to deal with Australian celebrity in ways that account for both cultural and gendered specificities, demonstrating how gendered ways of imagining Australia are reinforced and contested in celebrity representations and self-presentations. Gender and Australian Celebrity Culture engages with celebrities across a diverse range of fields – actors, journalists, athletes, comedians, writers, and television personalities – and in doing so critically reflects upon different forms of Australian fame and the media platforms and practices that sustain them. Authors in this volume engage directly with pertinent issues relating to gender and sexuality, including celebrity feminism and the generative capacity of feminist rage; normative femininity and its instability; hegemonic masculinities; and queerness and its (in)visibility. Contributors also intervene in a number of ongoing debates in media and cultural studies more broadly, including those around the politics and affordances of digital media; whiteness and Australia’s colonial histories; celebrity labour; and methodologies for celebrity studies. This timely collection urges scholars of celebrity to attend further both to the gendered nature of celebrity culture and to local conditions of production and consumption. This book will be of key interest to researchers and graduate students in cultural studies, television and film studies, digital media studies, critical race and whiteness studies, gender and sexuality studies, and literary studies.

A story of a rebellion against the fashionable mores of our time. A young American is stranded in Scotland without any idea of how she got there. As she fights to discover the hidden forces behind her abduction, she discovers that she is the victim of a shadowy organisation with a hand in most governments across the world – an organisation completely amoral about the methods they use to achieve their goals – including people trafficking. Her trafficker betrays the organisation due to a hopeless juvenile infatuation with her and pays with his life. She lands among a group of isolated people whose fight against the threatening lunacy of the times is essentially a fight again the same people who have attempted to abduct her. Finding herself the subject of a serious and genuine affection which she only at length returns, she and her new companion (along with an eccentric retired policeman) fly out to California to try and uncover the truth about what has happened to her. Once there, they join forces with other rebels, but as their fight against the organisation becomes increasingly violent, the fate of the rebels hangs in the balance.
