The idea for this book came when Stephanie began making a list of things that annoy her about her husband, and found how hard it was, once she had started, to stop. Here are the first Ten Things, just to give you an idea. He: Leaves the bread unwrapped after making toast so it goes stale; writes illegible names and addresses on things like Christmas cards then tells her off when she try to amend them; breathes really loudly when he's asleep - 'I wasn't SNORING' - so that it's like being woken every night at 2am by Darth Vader. And not in a sexy, black cloak, galaxy ruling sort of way; says, 'I'm putting you in charge of that' as if he's doing her a favour when he wants to get out of doing something; says, 'Well, let's not make a problem out of it, shall we?' Before ignoring the thing she's just told him about that's really bugging her and that she wants him to fix; doesn't fix things the minute she asks him to; manages to get the children to bed with far less yelling than she does; always sees the other side in an argument, i.e., the side that isn't hers; and adores her mother. Viciously funny, touchingly honest and only too true, this is Stephanie Calman at her brilliant best.

"Get this for your pregnant friends, or yourself" (People): a hilariously candid account of one woman's quest to bring her post-baby marriage back from the brink, with life-changing, real-world advice. Recommended by Nicole Cliffe in Slate Featured in People Picks A Red Tricycle Best Baby and Toddler Parenting Book of the Year One of Mother magazine's favorite parenting books of the Year How Not To Hate Your Husband After Kids tackles the last taboo subject of parenthood: the startling, white-hot fury that new (and not-so-new) mothers often have for their mates. After Jancee Dunn had her baby, she found that she was doing virtually all the household chores, even though she and her husband worked equal hours. She asked herself: How did I become the 'expert' at changing a diaper? Many expectant parents spend weeks researching the best crib or safest car seat, but spend little if any time thinking about the titanic impact the baby will have on their marriage - and the way their marriage will affect their child. Enter Dunn, her well-meaning but blithely unhelpful husband, their daughter, and her boisterous extended family, who show us the ways in which outmoded family patterns and traditions thwart the overworked, overloaded parents of today. On the brink of marital Armageddon, Dunn plunges into the latest relationship research, solicits the counsel of the country's most renowned couples' and sex therapists, canvasses fellow parents, and even consults an FBI hostage negotiator on how to effectively contain an "explosive situation." Instead of having the same fights over and over, Dunn and her husband must figure out a way to resolve their larger issues and fix their family while there is still time. As they discover, adding a demanding new person to your relationship means you have to reevaluate -- and rebuild -- your marriage. In an exhilarating twist, they work together to save the day, happily returning to the kind of peaceful life they previously thought was the sole province of couples without children. Part memoir, part self-help book with actionable and achievable advice, How Not To Hate Your Husband After Kids is an eye-opening look at how the man who got you into this position in this first place is the ally you didn't know you had.

By the age of twenty-four, Air Force Staff Sergeant Mike Severance had already survived a series of missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. But his life back at home, in Texas, would prove a lot more dangerous... In the winter of 2005, Mike's wife, a veterinarian named Wendi Mae Davidson, reported him missing. Wendi told police that Mike had been acting erratically—visiting local clubs, staying out late, sometimes not coming home at all. She filed for divorce the very next day. Eventually Mike's body turned up in a stock pond on a private ranch. Investigators described a corpse that was weighted down with two cinder blocks, a rock, a boat anchor, and other equipment. It had also been stabbed forty-one times with a knife. But an autopsy report told a different story: That the cause of death was exposure to pentobarbital and phenobarbital, drugs commonly used in veterinary medicine. All the evidence pointed to Wendi...and soon she would be found guilty of murder in the first degree. Diane Fanning's A Poisioned Passion is the true, shocking story of a war hero and a marriage that ended in cold-blooded murder.

The award-winning author of Femmes Fatal and The Thin Woman serves up the ubiquitous mother-in-law joke family style—with death for the punch line. . . . Nothing like a live-in mother-in-law to reduce a woman to the role of junior housemaid. That’s what Ellie Haskell discovers when her husband’s parents have a row in the midst of their anniversary dinner, and mother Magdalene seeks refuge in Ellie’s guest bedroom. Suddenly Ellie is being driven round the bend by the woman’s constant demands. Thank goodness for the other wives who also suffer the age-old mother-in-law curse. A chance meeting down at the Dark Horse pub finds them trading horror stories, and soon they’re mixing gin and tonics with homicidal fantasies—a soupçon of poison here, a broken brake line there. All very therapeutic and no harm intended. At least, that’s what Ellie thinks. . . . Praise for How to Murder Your Mother-in-Law “Vintage Cannell. . . . Dorothy Cannell is a master at creating wildly ludicrous characters and hilarious plots. . . . Her latest Ellie Haskell adventure only enhances her reputation.”—Booklist “Side-splitting!”—Rendezvous “Toxic and hilarious.”—Publishers Weekly

When Mark returned home and his disability checks weren't enough to make ends meet Flo filed for divorce. Panicked by the thought losing her, Mark did everything he could to win Flo back. Even though she resisted his efforts, Flo did agree to a weekend getaway at the family's favorite lakeside resort. But soon a jury would be convinced of what Flo's friends and family believed to be true: That Flo would never have been alone on the boat dock that night because she was deathly AFRAID OF THE DARK.
