I wrote this story based on people that I have met in my life. They had shared their emotions and encounters of their life with me. In our life, we hope and wish to make the bad memories go away. Instead, they become our cancer in our heart, never to leave our side. Some may say they are stronger then others, when it comes to dealing with bad problems. That may be true but, don’t we all wish that we can make it all go away and never to return in our thoughts. I myself truly believe there are strong individuals out there that can deal with this cancer. Nevertheless, all it takes is one little something to bring that bad memory back into our thoughts repeatedly. I wish there was a pill to take so that one can forget the bad event that had happened in ones life. Never to return into our thoughts, but that would mean we just found a cure for memory cancer. Even though some hide their true self by hiding their addiction. May it be by pills, drinking, or smoking what ever? Not willing to face reality. One can only look in the mirror and truly tell them self, “What am I doing to myself”? Only one can only change if they truly believe they have the strength of the heart to do so. I believe we all have a little bit of Lilly inside of us. This is Lilly’s story.

"Part treatise, part memoir, part call to action, Tell Me How It Ends inspires not through a stiff stance of authority, but with the curiosity and humility Luiselli has long since established." —Annalia Luna, Brazos Bookstore "Valeria Luiselli's extended essay on her volunteer work translating for child immigrants confronts with compassion and honesty the problem of the North American refugee crisis. It's a rare thing: a book everyone should read." —Stephen Sparks, Point Reyes Books "Tell Me How It Ends evokes empathy as it educates. It is a vital contribution to the body of post-Trump work being published in early 2017." —Katharine Solheim, Unabridged Books "While this essay is brilliant for exactly what it depicts, it helps open larger questions, which we're ever more on the precipice of now, of where all of this will go, how all of this might end. Is this a story, or is this beyond a story? Valeria Luiselli is one of those brave and eloquent enough to help us see." —Rick Simonson, Elliott Bay Book Company "Appealing to the language of the United States' fraught immigration policy, Luiselli exposes the cracks in this foundation. Herself an immigrant, she highlights the human cost of its brokenness, as well as the hope that it (rather than walls) might be rebuilt." —Brad Johnson, Diesel Bookstore "The bureaucratic labyrinth of immigration, the dangers of searching for a better life, all of this and more is contained in this brief and profound work. Tell Me How It Ends is not just relevant, it's essential." —Mark Haber, Brazos Bookstore "Humane yet often horrifying, Tell Me How It Ends offers a compelling, intimate look at a continuing crisis—and its ongoing cost in an age of increasing urgency." —Jeremy Garber, Powell's Books

“Fabre speaks to us of luck and misfortune, of the accidents that make a man or defeat him . . . [He] is the discreet megaphone of the man in the crowd” (Elle). Lifelong Parisian Dominique Fabre—author of The Waitress Was New—exposes the shadowy, anonymous lives of many who inhabit the French capital. In this quiet, subdued tale, a middle-aged office worker, divorced and alienated from his only son, meets up with two childhood friends who are similarly adrift, without passions or prospects. He’s looking for a second act to his mournful life, seeking the harbor of love and a true connection with his son. Set in palpably real Paris streets that feel miles away from the City of Light, Guys Like Me is a stirring novel of regret and absence, yet not without a glimmer of hope. “Fabre’s unexpectedly touching novel has a laugh of its own behind its low-key, smoothly translated narrative voice . . . The city it evokes isn’t the Paris of tourists but of local people.” —The New York Times “Fabre is a genius of these nuanced, interior moments . . . The story Fabre tells is that of every one of us: looking for meaning in the mundane, moving through our lives, our interactions, as if through the fabric of a dream.” —Los Angeles Times “A short, arresting tale that . . . not only offers keen insights into the mind of its middle-aged protagonist, but also provides the reader with a unique tour of what everyday life in the low-key suburbs of Paris must truly be like.” —Typographical Era
