Four out of five households in the United States have one or more television sets, according to the results of a sample survey made by the Bureau of the Census, Department of Commerce. This survey, made in April 1957, showed a continuation of the rapid increase in the proportion of households with television sets since the beginning of the decade. In 1950, the first time that a question on television was included in a census, only 12 percent of all households had television sets; this compares to 67 percent for June 1955, 73 percent for February 1956, 76 percent for August 1956, and 80 percent for April 1957.
