The Mobile Board of Commissioners requested that the Mobile Historic Development Commission research the historical significance of the abandoned cemeteries referred to in a letter to the Mobile Board of Commissioners by Mr. Henry C. Williams, dated December 5, 1979. One of M.H.D.C. researchers, Elizabeth B. Gould, was directed to inaugurate a full study into the questions posited by Mr. Williams. Elizabeth B. Gould located the properties and conducted research to determine if these sites have ever been part of the Public Domain and thus the responsibility of the City of the County, and secondly, if the sites have any historic significance. Enclosed are seven files covering the four cemeteries proposed for consideration by Mr. H. C. Williams, with three additional sites that were so closely connected with the original four that it was necessary to research them also. All the cemeteries in question were located in various areas of the Old St. Louis Tract. The research has established that none or the sites has ever been a part of the Public Domain, but all have been in private hands since the first creation of the St. Louis Tract in 1733 when Bienville granted the large tract to d'Artaguette.
