NO full and connected account has been published of the events which transpired in this part of the Connecticut valley during King Philip's war, nor of the subsequent struggles with the savages up to the close of the war of 1722-26. The histories of the two succeed ing French and Indian wars are more full, but are defective in dates, and in details of local skirmishes. Almost nothing has been known of the antecedent Indian occupa tion, or of the first attempts made by the whites to gain a foothold here.
