Excerpt from A History of Isaac Howard, of Foster, Rhode Island: And His Descendants Who Have Borne the Name of Howard From Marblehead Isaac made his way to Rhode Island and obtained a lease for twenty years of a tract of land in Coventry (then a part of Warwick), west of the present Greene Station. This lease he exchanged for a tract of land in 1739 and removed to a place on the plains northwest of Gibbs's Pond. From there he removed to Rice City, then to a farm at the foot of Vaughn's Hill. His next removal was into what was then a part of the town of Scituate, now the town of Foster, Rhode Island. Here he lived for a time on the farm now known as the Sheldon P. Lyon farm. In 1752 he purchased what is now known as the Gorton Howard farm, about three miles south of Foster Center. Here in the year 1755 he built a house which gave place years afterward (1831) to the one built by his grandson, Gorton How ard, and still standing on the same site. Two stones from the chimney of the first house were placed in a conspicuous position in the chimney of the present one, and bear two inscriptions cut into their faces, which read.
