By: Goodspeed Publishing Company, Pub. 1888, Reprinted 2018, 684 pages, NEW INDEX, ISBN #0-89308-915-X. Harrison County was created in 1845 from Daviess County and Mercer County was created in 1845 from Livington County. Both counties are located in the northwestern portion of the state. Due to Missouri being a Slave state, settlers began showing up around 1837 from the Southern states of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. This volume contains biographical sketches of some 400 individuals in these counties and genealogical data on some 9,000 other families / individuals. These persons were not only from VA, TN, NC, & KY but also had large numbers of settlers from OH, PA, IN, IL, & MO along with lesser quanties from the states of DE, GA, IA, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NY, VT, WI, & WV. The New Index that was produced for this reprint mentions over 9,500 entries.

"From the multitude of biographical and genealogical sketches found in [61 Missouri county histories and biographical compilations] I have compiled this record of over 4,000 persons who were born in Kentucky but who late migrated to Missouri, some by way of Ohio, Indiana, or Illinois. ... Arranged in tabular format under county of origin the entries include some or all of the following information: the name of the Kentucky migrant, his birthdate, the names of his parents, and their dates and places of birth (if known), the name of the Missouri county in which the migrant first settled -- if different from his "current" county of residence -- and the earliest know date of his residence in Missouri. ..."--Forward.
