"The magic calls her. A prophecy binds her. The ancestors guide her. Dr. Taran Grim, a young professor of occult studies, knows the written history of witches better than anyone in her field. And she should. She’s one of them. After a mysterious stranger arrives at her office inquiring about the mythical staff of Woden, Taran’s curiosity reveals a millennia-old prophesy directly tied to her. The answers wait in Bryden, England and the only person who can help her gain access to the hidden valley is the descendant of Ruhmactir, and a member of the shape-shifting Geri clan: Collens “Coll” Donovan. But the Donovans have secrets of their own, and Taran’s underdeveloped magic is wreaking strange havoc on her life. If she can’t manage her magic and strike a truce with Coll, they’ll fail to prevent the prophesied event known as Deireanhexe: the end of the hexen race."

This text reviews many of the aspects of the chemistry of the aromatic hydrocarbons and a consensus evaluation of the data by seven of the leading atmospheric scientists. The book covers topics ranging from the relative importance of the compounds in ozone and haze development to methods of estimating elemantary rate coefficients based on structural features of the compounds to mechanisms of aerosol generation and atmostpheric reaction of the polycyclic compounds to photochemical processes. It identifies features of the aromatic hydrocarbons requiring further study and appendicies give the structural formulas and nomenclature of the compounds reviewed in the book.

Prepared by an international team of eminent atmospheric scientists, Mechanisms of Atmospheric Oxidation of the Oxygenates is an authoritative source of information on the role of oxygenates in the chemistry of the atmosphere. The oxygenates, including the many different alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, acids, esters, and nitrogen-atom containing oxygenates, are of special interest today due to their increased use as alternative fuels and fuel additives. This book describes the physical properties of oxygenates, as well as the chemical and photochemical parameters that determine their reaction pathways in the atmosphere. Quantitative descriptions of the pathways of the oxygenates from release or formation in the atmosphere to final products are provided, as is a comprehensive review and evaluation of the extensive kinetic literature on the atmospheric chemistry of the different oxygenates and their many halogen-atom substituted analogues. This book will be of interest to modelers of atmospheric chemistry, environmental scientists and engineers, and air quality planning agencies as a useful input for development of realistic modules designed to simulate the atmospheric chemistry of the oxygenates, their major oxidation products, and their influence on ozone and other trace gases within the troposhere.

Chemo-Enzymatic Cascade Reactions A groundbreaking book focusing on chemo-enzymatic cascade transformations Chemo-Enzymatic Cascade Reactions offers a unique book that explores biocatalytic-chemical cascade reactions and their applications in the synthesis of valuable chemicals. Written by a noted expert on the topic, this comprehensive resource includes information on the advantages and disadvantages of traditional chemical and biocatalytic reactions and reviews the three modes of chemo-enzymatic transformations: separate-pot-two-step, one-pot-two-step, and one-pot-one-step. The author examines the most current developments of chemo-enzymatic transformations organized by the three modes and types of enzymes and considers retro-synthesis based on both chemical and biocatalytic transformations and the synthetic applications. This groundbreaking book is the first resource to present in one volume the state-of-art advances of the technology and explore the opportunities and challenges of this burgeoning field. The book also considers the future of cascade reactions and the myriad benefits including higher atom economy and production efficiency, and less resource consumption and waste generation. This important book: Offers the first book dedicated exclusively to chemo-enzymatic cascade transformations Explains the importance and the opportunities and challenges of chemo-enzymatic synthetic technology Includes information on the three modes of chemo-enzymatic transformation Reviews the most recent advances in the field Written for organic chemists, chemists in industry, biochemist, catalytic chemists, Chemo-Enzymatic Cascade Reactions offers an understanding to the importance, current advances, the opportunities and challenges of chemo-enzymatic synthetic technology.

The boiling line of diesel fuels is relevant for the combustion in modern engines. Biodiesel shows a boiling behavior that is very different to diesel fuel. To adapt the boiling line, metathesis reactions were carried out. Different products were obtained by varying the catalysts and the ratio of biodiesel to 1-hexene. As 20%-blends in diesel fuel some metathesis products were quite similar to the diesel fuel boiling line. The metathesis fuels were tested regarding interactions with other fuel components and engine oil. Additionally, the material compatibility was in focus. Corrosion effects on copper were within the specification for diesel fuel. Exhaust gas emissions from 20%-blends as well as mutagenicity showed no significant deviations versus diesel fuel. In the result, no significant disadvantages for metathesis fuels were found. However, there production occurs currently only in lab-scale.
