Congratulates Knox on the birth of his daughter, which took place on 8 July. Says he might need discounts at the Bank of Philadelphia in the course of his future business. Asks Knox if he will accept my bill on you at forty five or sixty days sight. Explains that the money will be given to Knox in time to pay the bill, and that the bill will be drawn by Mr. McConnell. Says he wants access to an extension of credit to answer Mercantile Speculations, which I apprehend I can make to profit for these few months to come. Postscript says he enclosed letter from Mrs. Randall is for Lucy Knox (not included). Stamped FREE on verso. Knox answers Randall's letter on 21 July 1791 (GLC02437.05077).

Captain Randall says he received Knox's letter of 20 June. Received payment of 36.2.6 in New York currency for lottery tickets Knox purchased. Says your bill also for 2500 dollars on Wm Duer was this day discounted, discount 15 dollars 55 Cents. Could not obtain Philadelphia notes as lately the demand has been for money to be remitted to Philadelphia. Is prepared to answer Knox's bills at sight without the days of grace.
